Hi Everyone,

I want to plan an open-carry rally. Can anyone give me a suggestion in the OC area that might be receptive? I'm still reseaching the laws but I was thinking something like a park. I would like to have a Pledge of Alegience, prayer, and a few speakers then a BBQ or something to that affect.

So if anyone knows of a wide open area that is pleasant and the authorities are amicable please let me know!

Thank you,

One of the things you should consider beyond the legal logistics is thinking what your objective to the function is. Are you having the function to show it is legal? Are you having the function to educate law enforcement? Are you having the function forthe sole purpose to meet pro-gunners?

You can do it for all of these reasons, however one of the most important things you should be prepared for is the public relations aspect of being a 2A ambassador. In order to difuse the appearance of grandstanding- or demonstrating the gun nut ego trip that many associate with gun owners, it is almost compulsory to have some community service component.

BBQ in a park is a great idea- along with a litter pick up, blood drive, fundraiser for cancer research, childrens hospital, Christmas toy drive, women's refuge, or homeless shelter...It wouldnt hurt to also solicit sponsors from businesses in the pro-rights corner as the media would translate into free advertizing.

Excellent points. I went to the April 19th, 2010 armed rally in Virginia and I saw how effective just a small group of people are and I wanted to replicate that. But I like the idea of mixing it with a community service project. That trip was also a learning experience on how to deal with the media. They were so nice while interviewing, but not on report I have read even attempted to report the truth. So to asnwer your forst question the main point of the event it simply to exercise our right to keep and bear arms, but all three points would be covered to some degree.
