Need 1911 OC Holster Suggestions

I'm planning on picking up a 1911 sometime in the next few months and am looking for a good OC holster. I have a serpa for my Glock and absolutely love it, but it wears slightly on the finish. I don't mind the slight wear on the Glock because it's just my carry piece, but for the 1911 I want something that will keep it looking great. Active retention is a must.

Suggestions?

I would prefer something leather, which I forgot to mention in the OP. Also, the Safariland is a bit bulky for what I'm looking for.

What's that open top holster you have with active retention?

Anything without a button-flap over the top is going to cause holster wear, because the way they work is by TIGHTLY fitting against the handgun.

Your best bet is to get a regular old leather holster, with the little leather piece + button snap on top.

Or you could rock it oldschool, and get this:

I owned many leather holsters in the past. Some are from fancy, low volume craftsmen. Most are very good. And, most require 6-12 months wait. But, I should say that DeSantis is one of my favorites. Very high quality, precise molding, well balanced, reasonable price and, usually available without wait. I especially like their 1911 "cocked & locked" model. Here a couple of links:

I havea surplus of 1911 holsters. If ever we can actually hang out I'd let you try a few of them. Granted, they are mostly for commander length, but some full-size also.

Even leather holsters are going to cause wear on the finish, unless, as previously suggested, you get a stainless pistol. Just a little FYI.

Many custom holster makers out there can add a retention strap to their open top holsters for an additional fee.

If you read posts on holster making forums from pro-holster makers most actively try to talk their customers out of getting a suede lined holster as this contributes to holster wear. The suede lining traps grit and debris and that is the main culprit for wearing on the finish. A good lined holster will be smooth on the inside.

Whatever holster you are looking at make sure to contact the seller and verify that it will work with cocked & locked carry of a 1911.

I use a nice holster I picked up for around 25.00. It has great retention And keeps my 1911 right against my body. Comes with a front site channel. I can't load pics from my phone but if you pm me with an email addy I can send you pics of it. I've several people like it because it is secure and simple......
