Which would you rather no events or overlapping events?
Also I see no problem with overlapping events esp if they are hundreds of miles apart...
And in the case mentioned one is a festival that we did not set a date for.
My answer to this is NO OVERLAPPING EVENTS!! When we have 100 people turn out to every event then I would agree with you. It's just plain rude at this time to overlap peoples events. Have some respect for people planning events.
Well I disagree to some extent.
It depends on the events an where they are.
If I have an event in St Joseph and you have one in Warren or Detroit I see no problem as we are drawing from different pools of people.
If the guys in the UP want to have an event at the same time as the folks in Alpena I see no problem either.
Also there is another caviate Seminars and info booths... these can be staffed by 3 to 4 people and if those 3 to 4 people were not planning to go to any of the other events that day due to distance then now they have an opportunity to further the cause that they didn't have before.
In this state there are many festivals around the state that happen on the same weekend some of these overlapping festivals are far apart and some are close together. If we follow your plan Mike we would miss out reaching far too many people.
While I agree for picnics that are less than 100 miles apart for info booths and seminars I feel those can be effectively run with small groups and we would be missing too many opportunity if we restricted ourselves to only one per weekend in the summer.
MOC has 130+ members and growing but we have 700 or so Ocers on OCDO from MI. There is no reason to restrict ourselves nor to say to the folks that are over 100 miles from an event that they are out of luck BC the folks in Warren or the SE area are having a picnic on a certain weekend.
Finally I can understand doing this for say the SE region or the SW region or any other region. But to say that the whole state should be restricted to one event per weekend or no overlapping events is very shortsighted. There will always be event overlap.. however I see this as a positive as now 2 or 3 or however many events there that day far more people had the opportunity for education then if there was only one event.
Note this is my opinion and I am not speaking for MOC officially at this time however I will be discussing this with the board and making my position known and soliciting their positions.
