I emailed them to find out what their position was on open carry..........

Thank you for your email,

Our company has a No Weapons Policy. The purpose of the policy is to provide a
safe, secure and comfortable environment for our customers and visitors to our
premises. Just as our associates are prohibited from carrying weapons on
company property or while on company business, customers and visitors (other
than law enforcement and other authorized security personnel) are prohibited
from carrying weapons while shopping in our stores.

Please be assured that I have shared your feedback with our management.

Thank you again for contacting us so that we could provide you with this
information.

Sincerely,

Eileen Katz
Manager, Consumer Affairs

I guess we will be shopping elsewhere...............

No,I havefamily member who is in management there and I asked him a few weeks ago and he didn't have the first clue as to what their policy is. I gave him a few hypotheticals as to what he would do if I/someone came in one of his stores open carrying, and he didn't know. So, I figured I would check myself.

Since it is already out there, I figured I would take the time to send some feedback. I hope others will as well. If you do, feel free to use any of this as you wish.

Sent via their contact page (http://www.stopandshop.com/customer_service/contact/index.htm) (Just click 'Consumer affairs'.):
After seeing this policy from a member of your staff:

I will take my business elsewhere. Why Stop and Shop as a company feels that they have the right to restrict my right to personal defense and jeopardize my safety just because I shop at their store is beyond my understanding. I suggest your company reevaluates its position on such an important issue.

CT state law allows for properly permitted people to carry a firearm. Why does Stop and Shop feel that what is good for the rest of the state is not good within their store?

Furthermore, the explanation that this policy also applies to your employees only highlights the lack of respect and trust Stop and Shop has for their employees.

Until Stop and Shop rethinks such a terrible decision, I will shop elsewhere, as well as the many other people who have read this email on the internet.

I would like to remind you that there are over 150,000 permit holders in Connecticut and the word is spreading fast.

Very disappointed in your business decision,
Rich B

This is odd.

I shop at the Newington Stop & Shop on Fenn Road; I've OC'ed and CC'ed in that store for several years and no one in managementhas said diddly-s*** to me.

The question that I would pose toMs. Katzis something like:

If I'm prohibited from lawfully carrying a defensive sidearm in your store, then you'll be responsible for my safety in the store and on my way to my car, and be liable for anything that happens to me,right???

I've asked that question to a number of people and have yet to receive an affirmative answer.

I've been open carrying at the S&S on the post road in Norwalk for a very long time. Employees/management have never said anything to me about it. There is no sign posted.

I have never had a problem at the one in Hamden.

I DID email Stop & Shop and got the same answer that he did from the same person.

They have to post a sign or ask you to leave right?

Chubs,

If its not posted, they can still ask you to leave. If you simply comply, then you are within the law.
