Omaha police have made one arrest in connection with a robbery Monday night at a Benson Walgreens in which one person was killed.

The suspect is identified as 17 year old Angelo Douglas of 3716 N. 24th. Police records indicate he was arrested for robbery and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
The shooting happened just before 9pm at the Walgreen's at 61st and NW Radial Highway.

In an update late Tuesday morning here is how Omaha police lay out events leading up to the shooting:

Investigators believe that two masked suspects entered the Walgreen’s, one armed with a short shotgun. The armed suspect had leveled the gun at customers.

One of the customers at the register saw the suspect point the short shotgun in the direction of the register where there were several others standing.

This customer, who has a valid permit to carry a gun, drew a handgun from the waistband of his pants and discharged it at the suspect with the shotgun. The man was hit multiple times.

The wounded suspect was able to flee from the store but collapsed on the north side of the business. He was transported to the Creighton University Medical Center where he died.

The name of that person has not been released.

The name of the citizen who shot the robber has not been released.

The customer who discharged his firearm, shooting the suspect with the gun, was interviewed and released after detectives conferred with the Douglas County Attorney.

The Douglas County Attorney will also be forwarded copies of all of the reports so as to make a determination of any other charges that may be filed.

Allowing citizens to carry is for the purpose of allowing that citizen to use the firearm for the protection of himself/herself as well as that of others. As long as the citizen properly used his firearm to stop the crime and possibly save the life of potential victims then he did exactly what the law gives him permission to do.

If he is charged with a crime then that would fly in the face of the purpose for which concealed carry permits are issued.

How much do you wanna bet the major news networks avoid reporting this event?

I don't know if Nebraska law makes the CO-Robbery suspect in this case liable for the death of his partner. But, it is something that I would support.

Also, if the TRUE facts are as reported... the Concealed carrier should not only NOT BE charged in this death but he should not be liable for ANY civil action instituted by the family of the BAD GUY.

He should be THANKED by the Civil authorities for his actions!

UPDATE!

According to the updated article:

McCullough has a valid permit to carry a gun, however, he was cited for carrying a concealed weapon.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says McCullough was justified in the shooting based on the actions of the suspects and will not face charges in Thomas' death.

The charge did not stick once the city prosecutor reviewed the security tapes and discovered that the gun was not concealed.
