I leave this Saturday to come to Vegas and will be there for a week. I found that in 2009 Nevada honors Michigan's Concealed Pistol License. I was just wondering if casinos are a no go for any kind of carry like in Michigan. And any other info would be great.

Thanks much

Devery

Edited to add: I guess the only things that i am looking for are carry in casinos and hotels.

You can carry in in the casino's. Some members have opened carried in them with no problems. Some have asked to cover it up and some have been asked that they take it, and put it in the vehicle. The county and city parks are a no-go. Fed buildings are a no-go of course. If you plan on sticking to the strip, have at it. Many of the Nevada members have been on the strip with out any problems what so ever, myself included. There was some problems almost a year ago but those have been resolved.

Have fun while you're here and bring LOTS OF MONEY. We need your tourist dollars. ;)

I know a little over a year ago they were have gun shows there, because the usual place that has the big show was having a bowling tournament that lasted months. While the shows were going on at the Trop. They had signs at the entrances going into the casino from the convention area saying no firearms.
I have no idea what there policy is now though. Legally it's not against the law to carry. If your going to CC you have nothing to worry about. If your staying there and you OC they just might ask you to cover it up. If you refuse then they can trespass you. Then you might be looking for another place to stay.

What I have found is this, unless there is a sign posted with the relivant NRS chapter number that restricts carry or possession of firearms on the premissis carry at will, if you call ahead, they will arbitrarily say "NO."

In a free state is is never necessary to have laws specifically allowing any activity. All activities are assumed to be legal unless their is a specific law against it.

If you go in and they ask you to leave, politely comply with their request. Right now, most casino's are terrified of loosing even one customer. They have given the authority to remove patrons only to people of the highest positions; at least where I work this is the case.

This only applies to "Public," i.e. Government, buildings. Anywhere else at all - casinos, hotels, bars, restaurants, brothels (they are legal in some parts of Nevada), etc., Anywhere - it is legal to carry concealed if you have a permit that is recognized by Nevada.

The other exceptions are schools, childcare facilities andbuildings at the airport.

See http://www.leg.state.nv.us/Nrs/NRS-202.html#NRS202Sec3673

You may alsoconsume adult beverages while armed up to a legal limit of BAC 0.10 http://www.leg.state.nv.us/Nrs/NRS-202.html#NRS202Sec257

Careful there. Where does it say that the NRS has to be on the sign? As far as I know on public owned buildings it just has to be posted no weapons/firearms. They do not have to quote the NRS number.

IMO, you are correct:

NRS 202.3673 Permittee authorized to carry concealed firearm while on premises of public building; exceptions; penalty.

1. Except as otherwise provided in subsections 2 and 3, a permittee may carry a concealed firearm while the permittee is on the premises of any public building. ...

3. A permittee shall not carry a concealed firearm while the permittee is on the premises of: ...

(b) A public building that has a metal detector at each public entrance or a sign posted at each public entrance indicating that no firearms are allowed in the building, unless the permittee is not prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm while he or she is on the premises of the public building pursuant to subsection 4. ...

6. As used in this section: ...

(b) “Public building” means any building or office space occupied by:

(1) Any component of the Nevada System of Higher Education and used for any purpose related to the System; or

(2) The Federal Government, the State of Nevada or any county, city, school district or other political subdivision of the State of Nevada and used for any public purpose. ...

====================================

But the usual sign does quote the NRS section number.

I am taking back what I said Tim!!

I can't find where it says that weapons are not allowed in libraries in the NRS! I could have sworn I read that at some point but it may have been in the Utah or Florida codes that I was looking in!

My mistake, as far as I can see it does not specifically state Libraries as a building where you can not have weapons.

Hint: there is none. There is a law, NRS 202.3673 which states permit holders may not carry a concealed weapon into any public building which either has metal detectors at each public entrance or signs posted at each public entrance prohibiting the carrying of weapons.

However, state preemption law also states that no one but the legislature may create rules or laws regulating the carry of firearms, which implicitly includes into public buildings. While state law prohibits CCW permit holders from carrying concealed, the law is silent on non-concealed weapons.

As such, any sign on a public building is powerless to prevent openly carried firearms by those persons not otherwise prohibited from possessing firearms.

I've personally been into the DMV, the police station (internal affairs office) and Southern NV Health Center. All are posted no firearms, and I've carried openly into each without being kicked out, arrested, cited, or otherwise. In fact, during an interview with an internal affairs detective at his office, he mentioned he noticed I was open carrying and he was fine with it.

Tim, so if they ask you to leave or to remove your weapon, you have to comply right? I mean if they have signs posted?

At the DMV, Library and Police station etc. Is it like private property where you will be trespassed if you refuse to comply?

I really don't know the answer to that question. Technically, the notion of being asked to leave a public building because you're armed, would be exactly the same thing as if the signs had weight, which would be a violation of preemption law.

I've never really been able to get a definitive answer from anyone as to whether one can be trespassed from a public building when doing nothing illegal. Common sense would say no, but I can't say I'm 100% confident about that either.

I know others have posted about experiences with security at the DMV, asking them to leave their guns in the car. Some have reported refusing saying the law only applies to concealed weapons, and suggesting security call the police if they are confused about that. To my knowledge, in each of these cases, security was satisfied with this and went about their business returning clipboards to the front desk.

Interesting! Good to know, thanks for the info.

I am going to the Laughlin Library today and It is posted NO Weapons. I have never carried there because it is posted, but perhaps I will OC in and see if they ask me to leave or give me any hassle for doing so.
