Ran out of Sheplers in Sam’s Town.

Friday, April 30, 2010 my wife and I had a need to go to Sheplers we decided to go to the one in Sam’s Town. I was open carrying went in from the parking garage to avoid walking through the casino. No signs anywhere about guns. We were in Sheplers maybe 10 minutes and 3 armed security guards came in and one came over to me and said I needed to check my firearm to be in the casino. I told him I was not in the casino, did not go through the casino, and had not plan to go to the casino. Then he told me I was not allowed to have a firearm in a casino. I told him he was incorrect there was no law saying that and many casinos do allow them. Then he said Sam Boyd casinos properties do not allow them and the gun would have to be checked. I said I saw no signs saying that however if that was the case I would make my purchase and leave, he was ok with that. He did ask me why I was carrying it. I told him because it was my legal right. He actually seemed to agree and thank me for leaving. As my wife was paying for our purchase I walked to the guard that had been talking to me and told him I would be posting Sam’s Town not allowing legal carried guns in their casino. He said it was for their safety. I told him to prevent legally carried firearms in the casino does not make them safer. He then was telling me he was a pro-gun person and appeared to understand my reason however did have a responsibility to his employer and a job to do. He did thank me again for leaving and not making a big seen. The other two guards stood off with their thumbs up their astronauts. One of them being a 295-pound dirt-dam looking female. I am thinking that an employee of Sheplers must have called. I am going send Sheplers an e-mail to see what their policy is on legal carried guns in their stores. For those that may want to commit on us making the purchase I am not interested in any opinions on that. Keep them to yourself. I had a reason for making the purchase and not going to discus that here. I did open carry earlier in the day at Findlay Toyota while waiting for our free first service also carried in Kohl’s, CVS drugs and Maries Calendars all in Henderson without any issues.

I have OC'ed in Sam's town casino and go to Sheplers regularly.....I guess i was just one of the lucky ones....

I would not go 'ASKING" Sheplers. Many of us here carry in the Sheplers on Sahara and have had zero issues. It is not a Sheplers issue it is Sams Town.

On that note I would have not bought any merch in that store I would have handed whatever I was buying to the guard and just walked out.



I would then go to the otherSheps and shop there.

I think I might agree with Steve this time.....I think you should get the Guards name , put it on a protest sign and picket the place, but that is the way we did it back in my day....:banghead:

I may agree with you that it may not be a Sheplers issue however as I said I am pretty sure someone in the store had to call security. Going in we did not walk past anyone not even another customer. However, I am sure there are surveillance cameras. I was a little surprised by the issue I have been carrying all day without any problems. Thought about it later that I should have asked for the guard’s name. However, he appeared understanding to gun rights just had a job to do. They did have another guard waiting at the end of the walkway in the parking garage on a bicycle. I did have a camera in the car did not think of it until later should have taken his picture. I have carried concealed for 17 years without an issue. Carried open in Pahrump without an issue have not tried it in the local casinos. I carry a mid size 40XD and had a mostly white shirt tucked in so it was obvious I was carrying. I want to know if no one has an issue with my open carry it is not because they did not see it open carried. This is a great site and I am a new-B. Tons of good info. This was my first time carrying in Las Vegas and never would have tried until checking out this site.

You miss the point. By making the purchase no matter how urgent.( And exactly how urgent can a purchase at a sheplers be that you cant run to the other one? )

By making that purchase you have condoned whomevers policy it was to ask you to leave. You have condoned the thought that they have that your evil weapon is no good for them but your cash is. You have condoned the fact that they have decided to give up some rights and your cash says you do as well.



I understand that there are places I go that would frown on open carry so in that case I CC, like when I play craps at a casino. So in a way I am the pot calling the kettle some color. BUT I would not give any place my biz that ASKED me to leave for whatever reason, be it gun, or any other reason.

Iwould like to thank you for shopping at Sheplers.
I am sorry that you had a negative experience in our Sam's Town location.
Sheplers leases space from Sam's Town Casino and is bound by their rules and policies.
Again, thank you for your patronage and we hope you will continue to shop in our Las Vegas locations.
I did not tell her which store we were at. I am now wondering if she called them or just figured it was the one Town. Below is most of my reply.

I understand being obligated to a lease contract. However, just for information, forcing legally carried firearms out will not make the facility safer. A fact proven repeatedly. The illegal guns that come into the faculty everyday you do not see are the ones posing an extremely dangerous situation for employees and customers. With the occasional legally open carry firearm is a great way to keep the illegally carried guns in check. The difference between an illegal gun is the person carrying it does not follow the law. A legally carried firearm the person will follow the law.

That's called "attacking an ally." The security guy was apparently on our side, and simply following the orders of his employer.

Get a big sign and picket with it: "DESIGNATED VICTIM ZONE -- This company requires all customers to be defenseless". . !
