I don'tknow a lot about this but have seen on the news recently the Obama is pushing this hard in the Senate right now. How damaging would this be to our 2[suP]nd?[/suP]

INTER-AMERICAN CONVENTION AGAINST THE ILLICIT MANUFACTURING OF AND TRAFFICKING IN FIREARMS, AMMUNITION, EXPLOSIVES, AND OTHER RELATED MATERIALS

http://www.oas.org/juridico/english/treaties/a-63.html

Along with:

"Attorney General Holder revealed his support for a national gun owner registration scheme and authorizing the government to ban firearm possession for any person by merely adding that person's name to the terror watch list.

Drawing reasonable conclusions from what Holder publicly said, we now know:

• Holder wants a national, permanent gun registration system administered by law enforcement. A registration of honest citizens that have cleared the federal background check for gun purchases with those records permanently retained by and shared among law enforcement.
• Holder wants new federal authority to prohibit any person on the federal watch list (reported to be 400,000 names) from buying guns and supports confiscating guns from those on the list who possess them."

Also concerned that this very conveniently timed Puerto Rico statehood BS is to gain more progressive votes and to help continue their control of both houses?

I've read this treaty and it is utter foolishness. One provision requires States to keep records of illegally produced firearms so they can track them.

Just how does that work? Are they going to send ATF agents to illegal manufacturers and have them record the non-existent serial numbers on these illegally-produced arms?

And I wonder if this treaty will be used in instances like in the 1980's when the CIA contracted Ivers Johnson in Mena AR to manufacture full-auto M-16 receivers and sears without Serial Numbers or Manufacturer info stamps, for shipment to the Contras in exchange for cocaine? Does anyone REALLY think that the thousands of full-auto untraceable M-16s shipped to Nicaragua by the CIA and DEA in the mid '80's would be regulated under this treaty? Does anyone thing that the UN would DARE to bring up the DCI or the Miami DEA director on international arms smuggling charges?

Are People like Congressman Charles Wilson going to get arrested under this treaty, like when he illegally purchased untraceable firearms from Israel to ship to the Taliban in Afganistan to fight the Russians in the 1980s?

Give me a break...

The vast majority of "illegal arms" are actually manufactured, shipped, and sold by legitimate manufacturers and GOVERNMENTS to other governments or "freedom fighter" groups.

Somehow, I don't think the US government, or Israel, or even Russia or China is going to get called out and prosecuted by such a treaty.

Foolishness, I say...

I call SHENANIGANS on the UN...
