I believe every forum member here would draw a weapon to help save a child.

But would you save a child's life with just a phone call?

Please sign up at http://www.wirelessamberalerts.com, it's free, it's easy, your phone number will not be sold or given out by this service and it just might save a child's life.

Please don't overlook this opportunity to possibly help a child.

(FYI this is not spam. The coverage is for your local area and can only receive up to 5 alerts)

Thank you,
Robert & Joanne

Mr. Huffman,

I don't believe the OP to be a scammer or phisher of any kind.

The site given by the OP is valid.

http://www.amberalert.gov/wireless.htm

Both wirelessamberalerts.com and wirelessamberalerts.org are valid domain names.

I recommend going to wirelessamberalerts.org since the security certificate gives a warning for anyone making an attempt to wirelessamberalerts.com.

I would recommend care. People with nefarious motives often use URLs that are similar to real ones. I don't know if it is still that way, but whitehouse.com used to bring up porn. I found that out when I meant to type whitehouse.gov!

At any rate, I tried to go to these sites to check them out for myself. They won't load. That, in and of itself, is suspicious. Unless I get independent verification, I wouldn't give telephone numbers to this site. Use the .gov site instead.

eye95,

the gov site I linked to points towards the external PROGRAM called wirelessamberalerts, set up with The Wireless Foundation.

I think the site is having problems, the .org site worked a few minutes ago. I'd try later.

Eye95,

I appreciate your concern and don't know why it didn't load for you. The addy takes me directly to the site and then to my Verison account for me to securely sign in and activate the Amber Alerts to our phones.

If you are interested in doing so, then just go to your cell phone provider and you can sign up there if it's anything like Verison's alert options (i.e., weather, sports, amber alerts, etc.)

This is a valid opportunity and I was just trying to draw attention to this invaluable tool to help protect children.

Thank you,

Amber alerts are misused to broadcast information about civil child custody disputes between feuding parents. These entirely civil issues have been improperly criminalized by the state, and I will not de facto endorse these efforts by participating in any amber alert forwarding system.

The Amber alert system should focus strictly on stranger-child abduction cases.

deanf,

Let me first say, I do believe you need more experience in the sense of child abduction.

I was one of those kids who had a hard time during a parental divorce. My birth father moved, wouldn't tell anyone where we lived, and hid the address from me. My mother was concerned, as were the courts. Ultimately the courts decided my mother would be granted custody given the ill-nature behavior of my father.

I fully support amber alerts being used for custodial disputes, they're important as stranger abductions.

I don't know that Amber Alerts are or are not used for custodial disputes. But, unless there is reason to believe that the child is in serious and immediate danger, I'd be dead set against using Amber Alerts for custodial disputes. Using Amber Alerts when children are not in danger takes credibility from Amber Alerts for children who are in danger.

I am not in the position of knowledge to be judge nor jury concerning child custody judgements, therefore I will in react to Amber Alerts in hopes of saving a child.

I can alsoimagine it would be a significant buzz kill to stumble onto a government website while porn surfing...eeew. That's just creepy.

I happen to know for a fact that Amber Alerts used for Custodial Cases can ruin someones life. My DH was granted full custody of his daughter due to the drug use and abuse to the child by the Mother, the father (former father in law) lied to the authorites and got my husband thrown in jail for kidnapping his own daughter because he didnt want his ex son in law to have custody, due to the lies and misuse of these Amber Alerts, my husband was thrown in jail. I am completely against using these alerts for anything but true child abductions period.

We had to sue the California Missing Children Network to get them to remove his daughters "found" banner from their site and from them using it in advertisement, especially since the child wasnt stolen but was in the custody of the parent the courts gave her to.

Wow. Did the former FIL get into legal trouble? He should have.

Your DH abbreviation caught my eye. Do you by any chance post on another website where that particular abbreviation, along with DRL is used frequently?

I'm glad someone said it. And don't even get me started on the use of the alert system to track down parents who refuse to give their children narcotics.

Amber Alerts: Leveraging the good intentions of millions of motorists to enforce the state's will in civil matters since 1996.
