That's a pretty bold statement. Is a battered wife responsible because her husband broke the law and beat her up when she refused to cook dinner? Then why is an innocent citizen responsible when police violate the law, no matter the circumstances?

Compliance with police is definitely the way to go if you care about expedience. Good guys who cooperate are sure to have a much quicker encounter with law enforcement. But as one of those good guys, I want no encounter with police officers. That's why I'm willing to refuse to cooperate each and every time police initiate a stop on me, even if it means a longer or more painful stop right now.

There have been times in my life when I have complied with police, mostly out of ignorance of what my rights really were. And in those cases, police left quickly. But that point in my life is over. I've become aware of what authority police actually have, and what my rights are, and I take my duty as an American citizen seriously. I have nothing to hide, but I don't have to prove it, and from now on, I never will again.

I realize that there are only two possible outcomes. Either they will break my resolve and I will comply just out of sheer fatigue. Or two, police will recognize that there is no reason to stop or initiate an encounter with law abiding citizens, and go about the business of solving crimes.

Veterans get my vote. At least when they took an oath to defend the Constitution, they meant it.

In terms of who to donate to, may I suggest a question to ask that may give the best answer? To what group would a donation have the best benefit to them and to NV open carriers? As an example, maybe calling one of the news anchors on tv and asking them to pick a charity. That might get a tv or newspaper mention and promote open carrythan a check sent to metro that no one might hear about.

Well I'm glad you feel the need to take multiple offifers away from doing their jobs because you feel the need to "stand up for your rights".

I don't see how a cop asking for your ID is a violation of your rights.

The other day when myself and thee other OCers were being escorted out on San Genero, a cop walked up, asked us what was going on, saw that we were being polite, and were being compliant and you know what he did? Nothing. He walked away.

That's the thired time I've made contact with an LEO and that's the third time we both walked away in a good mood.

If you **** with the dog, you're going to get bit. Same concept can be applied here as well.

If cops approach me, it's not because I felt the need to do anything. It's because they made the decision to approach me.

A cop can ask me for ID. That's his choice. If I choose to ignore his request, that's my choice.

It's not a violation of my rights to ask for ID. But it is a violation of my rights for him to detain me to ask for my ID. It's also a violation of the law for him to threaten to arrest me for choosing not to show it. Read NRS 171.123 and NRS 207.190.

If I mess with a tied up dog, I expect to get bit, and that's my fault. But if the dog is running loose and bites me, that's either a bad dog or a bad trainer.

The same with the cops. If I go breaking the law, I expect them to stop me and put me in jail. But if I'm not breaking the law, I expect them to leave me alone. At the very least, if they choose to approach me, I expect them to uphold their oath and follow the law. And that means that they don't go throwing me in handcuffs or threatening to arrest me if I choose to exercise my rights.

If it's a bad cop, or if it's bad training, the correct way for a citizen to respond is to complain formally. A good cop with bad training gets retrained. A bad cop gets another complaint on his jacket and maybe he'll be gone.

No bux to the cops -- it sends the wrong message.

My thoughts run more toward Eddie Eagle kits (love or hate the NRA, this is a program worthy of our support), or to pay the actual expenses to give free CCW classes to college coeds, abused women, etc.

We are constantly being attacked over not doing anything to improve safety, so here's our chance.

Up here in the north, we're currently watching the trial of a rape-muder suspect. Imagine setting up a table near the courthouse with men gathering money to help women get CCW classes, so they won't be the victims of the next goblin.

"A convicted rapist can't be required to register his gun or get a permit when he carries a concealed weapon -- we are here to help his VICTIM get permission from the State to protect herself!"

I put the NRA in the same page as cops, no use to give them cash. really no use at large for us to give cash to any gun owner group. They get plenty of money.

BUT you have a great idea. The pay for CCW class. I like that. Although I have to now wonder in this day and age if we couldnt somehow get sued by either a shooter or criminal for paying for them. So maybe we should stick to vets or the like.

Let them sue. Think about the PR effect of a bunch of gun-toting guys working to empower women in a way that the "progressives" won't.

Sound bite to use when they stick a camera in your face:

"This is the REAL 'womens' movement!'"

My point was this. We pay for say a woman to get her CCW. She gets in a shooting and herself gets shot. She or her family could even sue us. No good deed goes unpunished.

What "us" is there to sue, that would have enough money to entice a lawyer to take the case?

And what lawyer are you going to find who will take a case where they have to argue that SHE CHOSE to carry, SHE CHOSE to get her CCW, then when when she was attacked, she was somehow worse off because of "us" than she would have been if she had simply been raped and murdered without trying to defend herself?

I DREAM of a case like this going to court! It's one more chance to spank the hoplophobes and discourage any more stupidity from them.

And it goes NOWHERE.

The only reason for a group to have a fundraiser (rather than donating to those of other groups) is A), if nobody else is supporting that cause -- which is not true with the veterans -- or B), if they can get some favorable publicity -- again, not true with the veterans.

If you want to do this right, do something good which will attract TV news crews, and get the chance to explain Constitutional Carry. What would be more likely to do this than to go out and raise money to send some 90-lb young coed to CCW class?

. . .especially during the big story about the rape and murder of a coed . . ?

Do you take the time to read or hear or watch the news in this country? People sue other people for stupid shit all the time.

My vote is vets or kids. Otherwise count me out.

With all due respect, there are plenty of people here who have devoted a lot of time and effort to putting this all together. I'd rather have us stick to the plan than spread this event in 1000 different directions.

Now, think about what you just said about seeing that on the news.

First point, what money could they get? I hadn't heard that this is a group with a big bank account, lots of assets to go after, or any of the other things which attracts lawyers.

Second point, LET THEM SUE. What better way to get attention to the fact that your hypothetical "she" had to jump through hoops to get permission from the State of Nevada to try to defend her life in the first place . . ?

If I can do something to save some young mother's life, I'm willing to risk REGIMENTS of lawyers. After all, I risk lawsuit every time I strap on my GSP. I risk lawsuit every time I start the engine on my plane. I risk lawsuit every time I do pretty much anything. Some risks are worth it.

But, hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinions . . .and fears . . .

what do people think about doing it for the special olympics. I think it would be a worthy cause and people would donate to it. I also think its good because we carry to protect ourselves from the scum and these kids are the exact opposite great people that have been dealt some problems, but live arewarding life unlike the maggots that are physically fine but just plain evil!
