and the rumor is it uses the same .45 mags as the original XD .45 which would be good news for price and availability. If you check out midwayusa, they are showing the .45 XD magazine as fitting the XDm also. (could be a premature mistake though).
According to the release brochure it uses standard 45 XDmags as well as 45XDm. On a related note, if anyone sees a preview for it any gun mags let me know. I can't flip through any out here in the desert.
You can find a very good review in the American Rifleman, on the related note of the mags fitting the XD and the XD(M),the .45 will work since they are both 13 round mags as for the .40's they will not, as stated in the American Rifleman the XD(M) magazine is a double-column unit that holds 16 rounds... Their greater capacity and storage construction makes XD(M) magazines wider than standard XD magazines. this means that the original (.40)XD magazines are incompatible with (.40) XD(M), and vice versa."

I bought it!

:)

In 2008 Springfield put out several models that had the thumb-switch safety standard. It took a while, waiting... shopping... waiting... more waiting...

But eventually I was able to replace my compact with the Tactical +thumb safety

No hammer, but the XD has a striker indicator where the hammer would be... just a tiny nub that sticks out when the striker is in the cocked position.

Still has the trigger safety and the "bobtail" (as opposed to beaver tail) which combines the safety features of the Glock with the 1911.

No decocking lever, I would like one of those too... mine is a 5" but they did 4" with the thumb switch too.

It does have a nifty "chambered round" indicator... another little nub that sticks up off the top of the slide when a round is in the pipe.

I do not have any pictures... but I suppose I should take some. Might as well add to the "gun porn" thread...

;)

I'd love something like that. Can you post pictures? Actually, what I would consider a perfect carry piece is exposed hammer, double action, with decocker and manual safety, grip safety, polymer frame, barrel length 3-4 1/2 in., double stack mag. w/ 12-18 rd. capacity and (naturally).45 cal.
FNH P-45 USG Model and Taurus P-845 are close, but no grip safety. Your XD with a exposed hammer, I assume you also have a grip safety or was it either/or.

If you didn't care about the grip safety, (which I don't) the H&K USP is a great fit too. It is 12+1. I have bid on a FNH FNP-45 too. :) I think I will pass on the XDm 45.

I don't own an XD series weapon (yet) but I can tell yall that when I put my hands on one down at Gilbert Arms last year it was astonishing how quickly and naturally the sights lined up on target when the piece was presented, just as if I had pointed my finger directly at the target.

My big problem with this gun - and the Glock (and 1911s carried cocked-and-locked) is that, safties aside there is no escaping the fact that the doodad that slams into the primer and sets off the powder charge is sitting there under spring tension. Why cannot someone devise a striker-fired weapon wherein the first shot is DA and which has a decocking safety? So far I have seen only DAO and SAO striker guns. Correct me if I am wrong.

I agree, the ergonomics of the gun were instantly appreciated!

I like having the added safety mechanisms... but the only one that should be relied on is your trigger finger.

I keep my gun in condition ONE... cocked and loaded.

Keep your finger off of the trigger and the weapon is as safe as if it were decocked.

I'm still not certain whether or not it has both a thumb and grip safety, like a 1911, or only the thumb safety as a trade off for removing the grip safety.

I know about cocking indicators for the striker. I just prefer a exposed hammer. I own 4 Glocks and like them, but would prefer a hammer fired pistol.
My XD-45 has all three safetys.
