The animal's remains were exhumed in early 2005 and studied by scientists for a documentary. In March 2005, these scientists confirmed that Hogzilla actually weighed 800pounds (360kg) and was between 6.9feet (2.1m) and 8.6feet (2.6m) long

Chances of you getting close enough to a hog with a pistol are pretty slim. They are smart suckers and are sneaky as all can be. Most guys hunt them with dogs or shoot them at long ranges with rifles.

(3) A person who possesses a license to carry a concealed pistol issued under 1927 PA 372, MCL 28.421 to 28.435, or a valid hunting license for any game issued under part 435 of the natural resources and environmental protection act, 1994 PA 451, MCL 324.43501 to 324.43561, may kill a swine running at large on public property. A person may kill swine running at large on private property if the person is, or is accompanied by or has the permission of, the owner or lessee of the property.
Interesting things about this bill:
  1. Have a CPL? This bill authorizes such a person to legally carry any Michigan Legal Firearm on Public Land for the purpose of hunting feral swine. In addition, this will be allowed on Private Land with owner/lessee permission.
  2. DNRE definition of Feral Swine seems to indicate that it is technically not hunting to take/harvest them. From the FAQ link below: "Feral swine are not defined as wildlife. Swine are agricultural products."
  3. This bill does not to set any limitations on firearm type, caliber, or cartridge capacity. The DNRE Site lists that you are to follow applicable guidelines for the Open Season you are hunting. Since it is technically "not hunting" since feral swine are "not wildlife", I am not sure that there are any limitations.
I am thinking that if I am correct, I will be finally funding that Springfield M1A purchase to go have some fun harvesting "agricultural products".

This deserves Sir Dancing Banana! :celebrate
