I had to go to walmart today to return some stuff was stuck at the front door while elderly man checked my returns and taged them with some sticker while standing there a lady came up to me and really loudly asked if I had a permit to carry that. I looked at her and smiled , Said I dont need one to opencarry she then asked if I was LE I said no. She then informed me that because of the laws in wi they dont allow people to carry firearms in the store except for LE. I had to laugh. I asked what laws are you refering too, She did not answer. I then said I know that I can carry here and told her she is not allowed to ask me to leave because she was a floor worker. She then says well I know we have a policy against it and who are you to tell me I dont no the rules I laughed again and asked her to call her manager, she laughed at me and said fine if you want to be escorted out we can do that or somthing to that effect and walked to a phone near by I heard her say we have a man up here packing a gun and then she said it is on his side ya in a holster she said ok thank you. She hung up the phone and snapped at back at me and said you have permission to carry that thing, I SAID I KNOW AND NOW SO DO YOU! So I returned my stuff and went on to finish my shopping and then noticed she was following me and telling all the rest of the employees to look and she was pointing at me and my firearm I then turned told her I would be contacting her manager and complaining about her actions. She said she was not following me. Well I dont think I will shopping in that store until they have trained their employees better. I also carryed and spoke with several employees at menards today nothing to report but good things there

:celebrateHmmm. I'm thinking I need to do some wally shopping this weekend now. Saturate the store with some OC. Not to mention supporting a store who will correct their employees with my hard earned money.:celebrate

good job barron in requesting a manager perform their duties rather than a floor associate with a pwertrip thinking that they make the policies and the laws.

I've been in that store multiple times in the last couple weeks for lengthy durations and no issues. Also talked to multiple employees. Looks like you found the only one that didn't know what was going on.

I dont think she didnt know she just had her agenda in mind. The only reason I say that is because of her additude from the start this lady was very pushy and demanded compliance she was not going to change her mind no matter what I said.

Another reason I NEVER shop at wallyworld, recently I have read too many stories about Walmart & Gander Mountain on here & their inability to tell ALL of their employee's at ALL of their stores that OC is legal & to leave OC ers alone. China Mart & Expensive Mountain , two stores I don't shop at. Harassing Open Carriers is BS & then allowing their low life employee's to Harass Open Carriers is beyond BS.

Shop at those places that want your business.

And so do I. When BK told us don't come back, to my knowledge none of us has gone back. They will learn.

Added:

Yet another reason for these OC events like the LAx Picnic, Eau Claire picnic, and the "Glock" party. It is a way to help educate the public. It is just unfortunate that I will have to miss the "glock" party again this year.

Thats why I did not just leave I wanted to make sure this did not happen to sombody else because of this ladys ignorence she was put in her place. I bet it was not her intention to get the word out that it was legal there was about ten people at the return counter the heard what we were talking about and now they know it is legal and alright to do.

I would file a complaint against her!

If I was approached the same way she approached you by asking "Do you have a permit for that thing?" I would have simply said "yes I do!"
What is she going to do next? ask to see it? Does she feel she is in law enforcement or something.

When someone approaches you spewing ignorance and bias from every orifice, and asking stupid questions, just tell them what they want to hear and say you do have a permit. If she argues with you and says something like "They do not issues permits" then ask her why she would ask such a stupid question if she already knew that.

The only problem trying to deal with ignorant people like that is that you need to lower yourself to their level. it is like wrestling with a pig, you'll still end up getting dirty and at one point you may even realize that the pig enjoys it.

IANAL but I believe lying could get you into trouble. What is an off duty/under cover LEO was in earshot and heard you, could there not be charges?

Also, telling her that you have a permit would reinforce her wrong perception that permits are available/required. The OP did the right thing and even though the employee wasn't happy, she was educated.

His point was, that Article 1, Section 25 of the state constitution along with the "State's Position" that "Open Carry" is legal, IS his permit.

If I am walking down the side walk, and somebody says, "do you have a permit to do that?" Well YES, we all, as in the general public, have permission to traverse the side walk.

Not speaking for Nutczak, but I think that was his point.

I'm not trying to pick nits but in that case I would state that I have permission. A permit implies a piece of paper or something special, not a God given right.

BNH got it right, and thank you for fielding that for me.

As per an undercover cop or off duty cop being within earshot. Why would that make a difference? There is nothing that they could do legally or otherwise in asituation like that. Now if the lady asking about permits started getting rude and creating a scene, he may be able to stop her ranting and issue a disorderly conduct citation to her if he wanted to.

I have very little tolerance for people coming at me, and trying to berateme for my life choices while minding my own business
People pulling crap like what happened to the OP reminds me of a scene that took place in the George Webbs on Loomis by theinterstate.
A guy was giving me earfulls of crap for my choice of having an earring in my left ear. He started to claim to the entire restaurant that I wore panties too, and all kinds of other ignorant crap. (This happened in the early 1980's when earings on men was relatively rare yet)
When he got pissed-off because I simply ignored him, he decided to get up and approach meand start in on me even more, He waslooking for a fight but never got the chance to fight.

At the point when he grabbed my ear is when I got up, and "accidentally" slipped on the floor (That's my story and I am sticking to it) andI slipped into him which caused him to fall and hit his head on the edge of the table which knocked him unconscious.
Then when the EMT's and police showed up, it turns out the guy was an off-duty Milwaukee cop that was laying on the floor in an unconscious state.

I acted all concerned when he was being treated, and when they rolled him into the ambulance I leaned over and said "just remember to tell your cop buddies that a guy that wears anearring did this to you"
The other patrons and employees at Webb's corroborated my statement of events, I was given a free dinner, and I got to see an abusive person who just happened to be a cop turn 15 different shades of purple with anger when things did not turn out the way he expected.
