doug, i understand, but we both know the antis are not concerned with legality, only with pushing rules and regulations, using any event, any venue to justify their cause and actions.

My brother asks me several times per year why I refuse to live in the vicinity ofMilwaukee.

I think I am going to forward the comments from the story the OP posted here, and the comments related to Mr. Gonzalez's story.
There is no way in hell I could everlive around those liberal "Nanny-state" refuse to take responsibility for themselves a-holes that Milwaukee and its suburbs are so full of.

Nutczak: it sucks being born in this county and living in it IMO. The only thing they have here is jobs and not even that many :?. Well in a year or so I'll be done with my college down here and up at Stevens point in a year or so! And I don't plan on coming back!

The only range I go to is wherever I decide to setup and shoot on public land up north. But yeah this article is crap, A few idiots decide to commit suicide in this manner and somehow the Journal Sentinal thinks because of these few cases there should be background checks to rent firearms.

The Journal Sentinel just dropped yet another bar in it's spread of anti-gun idiocrocy.

If a felon may properly be disbarred his rights under color of law then we can all be legally disarmed merely by sufficiently lowering the bar of felony - as has been done for domestic violence and stressed veterans.

Either we are equal or we are not. Good people ought to be armed where they will, with wits and guns and the truth. NRA KMA$$ Goddman the Obamanation

and let us not forget about that poor bastard in some state's forum i read about; lost his job, went out and bought a few guns, and the cops grabbed him and his guns, locked him up, as a 'protective' measure. i'm still choking on that story.

If I could get the H--E--L--L out of Milwaukee I would but the job dictates I stay here. But as I see it this State is as so far left socialist that I want to puke. So with that being said, bring on the Nov. elections maybe we can get rid of some of the pantie waist,

The elected few seem to always make the wrong decision'son what the many need, plus if there is a tax or a way they can bring a extra buck in to the picture , you can bet your last bullet that they will.and we will all being paying to go to the range a lot more than we do now.

"Badger Guns has started keeping the names of shooters who use its range, and it allows West Milwaukee police to run their backgrounds later." Hmmm.... Guess I won't shoot there any more. While I have nothing to hide it's none of West Milwaukee's business how often I shoot my gun or rent one for that matter. While they may be just using this to find felons who are breaking the law what is to stop them from plugging this data into the system and tracking our shooting habits? If they saw my name on that list multiple times what is to stop them from trying to use that to harrass me?

I have no problem driving out to Waukesha to do my shooting. And yes Shooters Shop is around the corner but filling out forms that can be filed and collected if I rent a gun doesn't please me either. I have no problem giving up my ID SO LONG AS MY INFORMATION IS NOT COLLECTED AND FILED. Call me paraniod all you want but it is no different then not wanting to tell the LE everything about me just because they ask if I have no legal obligation to provide such information.

cobra, the problem is everything is collected and filed. in the age of the computer, everything is on record somewhere. whether those records are used for good or bad is a definitely debate-able topic.

To the future or to the past, to a time when thought is free,
when men are different from one another and do not live alone
– to a time when truth exists and what is done cannot be undone:
From the age of uniformity, from the age of solitude,
from the age of BIG BROTHER, from the age of doublethink
– greetings!

Every time a law is passed a freedom is lost, every time a freedom is lost it is not recoverable without heroic effort. I don't care which amendment is applicable to a specific situation, every time we regulate it we lose another portion of it. We cannot afford all of these regulations passed for our good because they are not for our good.

Cobra, the form filled out at shooters is a general waiver and acknowledgement of range rules. Nothing more. It's just there to cover their a$$. Your id is only kept while you rent a gun and is returned to you when you turn the gun in. No info is taken, or recorded other than on the general waiver. This is insurance to get the gun back and helpful to the shop if you do damage to persons or property. No database is being formed and those forms don't see the light of day.

Ok so waivers I can understand. I am not so concerned about those even though it is still a document that can be forced over with a subpoena. Especially not concerned if they get shredded or destroyed on a consistent basis when they are no longer applicable. The way the story was wrote it was not clear what information was collected or the purpose. But for Badger to willfully create a list of not only people who rent guns (which I understand they are no longer renting guns after the recent shootings) but making the list of people who use their range at all? I understand that Badger is under a lot of scrutiny and is just trying to be cooperative enough to please those powers that be. But at what cost? There is no obligation to collect let alone release this information. Just the same there is nothing to stop LE from using this information any way they feel regardless if it was intended to track down illegal gun possession. Just another way to bypass not being able to run background checks of gun/range renters.

The greater the number of Laws and enactments, the more thieves and robbers there will be. Therefore the Sage says: "So Long as I do nothing, the people will work out their own reformation. So Long as I love calm, the people will right themselves. If only I keep from meddling, the people will grow rich. If only I am free from desire, the people will come naturally back to desire." - Lao tzu
