GRNC Gala for Gun Rights Draws Surprise Guest

Friday night, 150 guests enjoyed filet mignon and grilled swordfish while meeting the biggest names in gun rights at GRNC's Gala for Gun Rights. Held at the Charlotte Marriott City Center, blocks from the NRA convention, Gala speakers included DC v. Heller attorney Alan Gura, Senator Richard Burr, 8th Congressional contender Tim D'Anunzio, Second Amendment Foundation director Joe Tartaro, Firearms Coalition co-director Jeff Knox, and WBT Radio host Tara Servatius.

What no one expected, however, was the appearance of internationally-renowned concealed carry researcher John R. Lott, author of "More Guns, Less Crime" (just released in a 3rd edition). When Dr. Lott showed up to buy a ticket to the event, he was quickly shunted to the head table and asked to speak.

Ms. Servatius acted as emcee for the evening, while GRNC president Paul Valone opened and closed with a call to action for gun owners in the 2010 elections. For full details of the event, including the many other notables attending, go to:

Congratulations to Rick Foster, who won the Remington 700 CDL SF Limited Edition in 7mmRemington Magnum donated by Remington Arms. After Mr. Gura conducted the drawing, Ms. Servatius announced the winner.

Filet Mignon and grilled swordfish? No wonder they wanted so much money to attend. I wonder how much money they use to defend our rights and how much money they waste. I know I'm definitely not going to renew my membership.

Hey guys, long time lurker...I am sorry to start my posting on this note but really you are complaining about $50 for filet and/or swordfish at a major conference with pretty high level speakers?

IMO that is pretty farned good and no I was not there but I wish I could have been. Really do we need to be hammering our allies right now? With the 2A fights going on should we not all be focusing on the Antis? Like them or not this group has been a major force in NC for our 2A rights.

If you are a member, have you tried contacting the leadership to address your concerns on how money is spent? or do you just throw out unsupported opinion with no idea if there is any waste going on? Judging by their web site, I highly doubt they are throwing cash around willy nilly.

Adam H: Are you really that much of an idiot? FWIW, the original contract for a food and beverage minimum was set up for chicken, but that was when we hoped to get 200 or more people. Since only 150 could be bothered to show up to defend their rights, we upgraded the meal to avoid wasting unused money.

Speaking of which, where were you? Could you be bothered to spend $50 to help fund the "Remember in November" project?

Could you be bothered to show up and see how motivated and inspired people came away, ready to impact the 2010 elections?

Nah, I didn't think so. You'd rather just whine.

Unless I'm mistaken, the original price was more than $50. I didn't have that kind of money to spend.

I didn't have the money to spare either but I drove the 3-1/2 hours from northeastern NC to attend the GRNC event anyway. Add another $50 for the gas cost. It would be a much easier drive for you and a lot less expensive.

The ticket price reduction was the kicker for me, though I was about order a ticket anyway. I got my moneys worth and have no regrets. You missed some good speakers.

Thanks, Richard. Yes, to raise money for "Remember in November" the original price was $80 for one and $70 for each additional, but we realized we had priced it too high for people, particularly in the weak economy, so we dropped it to $50. Anyone who paid the original amount was offered compensation in cash or raffle tickets.

Perhaps I was a little harsh with "Adam H" earlier, but far too many gun owners are willing to tell other people what to do while doing nothing themselves. This is truly a case in which if you aren't a part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

GRNC members each paid for their own meals--we didn't raid any funds--and as far as I am concerned, the evening was such an inspiration! I would have paid that much to hear Alan Gura speak about his Supreme Court experience and his commitment to cases supporting the 2nd Amendment.

Look at the cost as two boxes of ammo!:lol:
