This past weekend in southern Cal a small group of trusted, veteranopen carriers convened to discuss opposition plans to AB1934. In this meeting we discussed a wide range of possibilities to effectively confront and defeat this anti-libertylegislation from termed out, socialistrepresentative Saldana.

Initially I thought it best this legislation be opposed and confronted by the San Diego open carriers who Saldana used as the scapegoats for her unconstitutional anti-gunagenda. But from what I can tell, that has not happened.

As our plans move forward to coordinate an effective response to this bill we will be needing help and support from the OCDO community. Working together we can make a difference. Let's make our voices heard and not let our liberties vanish under the dark cloak of tyranny.

More news to come soon. Carry on!

An additional note to add. In the meeting one thing we discussed was whether or not to promote a California Open Carry day. This would be a day we would promote to all gun owners / open carriers to open carry their sidearm that day while simply going about their normal business. No large meetups, just individuals throughout the state open carrying in a widespread manner.

I would be interested in knowing your thoughts on this idea.

In respect to San Diego heading it up: The problem we have here is most people are divided and fear consequence. I am on board to help in any way I can. I have tried to organize many events here in San Diego and all attempts have failed. So If there is any thing that I can do personally to help you get this ball rolling please let me know. I have many resources available.

Personally, I feel OC is just too risky for me given CPC Section 626.9 Gun Free School Zone Act. If in the city we are frequently at risk of violations. I carry a Saiga 7.62x39 in my trunk, a 10-round magazine in my pocket, 30 round pre-ban clips in the trunk also if things get real nasty. I forget I have the flat clipit in my pocket (much more comfortable then my Kahr PM9) , but with the clip in my pocket I can be assured it is not in my rifle. I’m comfortable my unloaded guns are reasonably safe and in control wherever I leave them. If I choose I can shoulder a rifle down main street, even in front of an elementary school if I dare 626.9(c)(2). I could carry it in the front seat of my car for that matter. If I'm robbed, assaulted, etc,in the 5 seconds it will take me to get to my trunk and get my rifle, any assailant that had hurt anyone, or still possessing a weapon had better have run 200+ yards. I have 6 Sagas ($334 each @ personalsecurityzone.com). I keep them everywhere, every car, several closets, back room at work, a clip always in my left pocket. My answer to "may issue". OC day I’m there, but rifles invited too I hope. Keep safe!

Hi nice to meet you. Crazy first post. Did you say you could carry your long gun in front of a school? I thought long guns were also restricted. That's why they call it a GUNfree zone not a HANDgun free zone. Corect me if I am wrong. Thanks.

Found the code but don't see how you can shoulder a rifle.

626.9. (a) This section shall be known, and may be cited, as the
Gun-Free School Zone Act of 1995.
(b) Any person who possesses a firearm in a place that the person
knows, or reasonably should know, is a school zone, as defined in
paragraph (1) of subdivision (e), unless it is with the written
permission of the school district superintendent, his or her
designee, or equivalent school authority, shall be punished as
specified in subdivision (f).
(c) Subdivision (b) does not apply to the possession of a firearm
under any of the following circumstances:
(1) Within a place of residence or place of business or on private
property, if the place of residence, place of business, or private
property is not part of the school grounds and the possession of the
firearm is otherwise lawful.
(2) When the firearm is an unloaded pistol, revolver, or other
firearm capable of being concealed on the person and is in a locked
container or within the locked trunk of a motor vehicle.
This section does not prohibit or limit the otherwise lawful
transportation of any other firearm, other than a pistol, revolver,
or other firearm capable of being concealed on the person, in
accordance with state law.

Last sentence..."This section does not prohibit or limit the otherwise lawful
transportation of any other firearm, other than a pistol, revolver,
or other firearm capable of being concealed on the person, in
accordance with state law"

e.g. a rifle or shotgun

You may argue that 626.9. (b) "as defined in

paragraph (1) of subdivision (e)", (that in turn refers to Section

12001) covers long guns, YES, but nevertheless the subject Section 626.9 in question, goes on to make clear an exception for long guns. It is rock solid, black and white. Someone snuck it in, and still we can hardly notice unless we read three times over. There it remains.

Of course I would not sling a rifle over my shoulder, and parade in frot of an elementaryschool, but I would transit where I pleased (except the PO, City Hall, and what not), as we reasonable should be able to do, without fear of conviction. I could not do the same open carry. With any of our methods, disorderly conduct, menacing charges, and other such nonsense await us until we change attitudes, and stop surprising even ourselves.

Before this thread gets too far off topic, let me ask again...I am interested in finding out how many support the idea of a state-wide open carry day in opposition to AB1934. Please chime in with a like / dislike and short supporting statement if you like. Thanks.

By the way, this is not the main thrust of our opposition plans to AB1934, just one of the ideas that could easily be undertaken by a large majority of supporters throughout the state.

Sorry to get off topic. I saw something and wanted to get a better understanding. I have been UOCing since April 19 when I drove to Sacramento for the Second Amendment rally. I was very disappointed with the turn out of any other people from this forum. People want it free and easy. The anti gun people are well funded and active. If you pick a day I will allready be UOCing. Let me know what the "small group of trusted, veteran open carriers" decide and I will be there. I hope to see you again at another meet.

Carry of a long gun in a school zone outside of a vehicle is a very big grey area due to wording in People v. Overturf. As such, I cannot support or condone such actions for a variety of legal reasons at this time.

See the In-depth FAQ in the "read here first" section and read a few threads on Calguns for more information.

If its State-wide, then this event would not be exclusive to southern California as indicated by the thread title.

I am supportive of a statewide demonstration conducted by individuals- and as stated in your earlier post, conducting themselves in their ordinary daily activities. Independence Day is just around the corner, if there is any day more appropriate, I'd be at a loss to find it on the calendar.

I like the idea too. I think ConditionThree has a great idea to hold it on the 4th of July. Maybe we could do it as a weekend event so that we would carry both saturday and sunday.

Pullnshoot, no one invited you because you are probably busy cleaning that pretty shotgun you got at the last gun turn-in. You still have it?

Yep. I had a wild thought of selling it but I came to my senses and I kept it.

Please stay tuned to what the ad-hoc group in So Cal is doing.

Coolusername will make all relavent post for our working group.

We have now a working petition and talking points. We are making as many media connections as possible and working to get elected or want to be elected individuals to go on record opposing 1934. We are moving to be set up for mass people events for tabling with talk and petition. Also we are attempting to get a facebook page up for the primary purpose of opposition to 1934

Looking for volunteers and want this to go out all over the state as uniform as possible. All are welcome in this effort. Thx.

1934 is stalled in assembly for now, and has to come out by June-4 then to Senate, they have until August-31...p
