Chase Bank Policy

found this at another forum I belong to, thought I would pass the word along:

So I got a package in the mail from them with a coupon inviting me to open an account a few weeks ago.

Walked into the branch and sat down to open a personal account. Bank rep says what do you do for work. I say I'm opening a gun store in a few weeks my license is pending and my office is just down the road from here.

He says excuse me, gets up and walks to the manager.

Manager says "Hi, JP Morgan Chase wants nothing to do with firearms or anything related. Your business is not welcome here. Have a nice day."

I'm completely taken aback at this. They're not opening a bank account for me because..... I'm a gun dealer? This dosen't sit right with me. I hop on the computer and write out a short letter to the CEO explaining how absurd I think this is. Dropped it in the mail last week and got a response back today.

Its a form letter with a few modifications but they're pretty clear.

WoW, That's almost scary - i would splash this all over the net and see what kinda business they lose. That's about as far to the extremes that you can get on the anti-gun scale there. Maybe show it to a lawyer and see if anything can be done in regards to discrimination ?

- Sorry to see that is their position.

Let the NRA know, they are good at convincing businesses to change their ways.

It wouldn't hurt, call the NRA and send them a copy of the letter.

I like the suggestion that others have made of using your Chase credit card (if you have one) for making all of your firearms related purchases. :D

But pay it off so they don't get any interest.

They would still make money on the merchant fees. Best way is to cancel anything you have with them. When you cancel, they ask why. Say "your bank does not support the right to keep and bear arms."

Enough people do that, it will have an impact.

Wow, I'm glad I bank with Kitsap Credit Union. Not only did they let me open a bank account for myself and my Firearms business (class 07) but they don't even flinch when I OC in their branch offices.

I called the 800 number on the letter, and I'm waiting for a call back. I've never had a problem OC at Chase in Gig Harbor, and I've used my Chase debit card to purchase several firearms. If they confirm that Chase does not allow accounts to be used for firearms, I'll close my accounts. This is ridiculous!

I only bank with chase because they bought wamu. They have improved nothing and made several things worse. This is just the thing I needed to push me over the edge. I am moving to Navy Fed, or BECU or, anywhere else.

[edit] Why do people/businesses feel they can pick and choose which amendments they support. Can you imagine a bank saying "you can bank here but we will not allow you to say any words except those that make us sound good, if you use words that make us sound bad, we will close your account"........is it really that hard to wrap your head around?!?!?

what. the. f%#!#$#%!$%&%&%$!!?!

:banghead::cuss::banghead::cuss:

This reaches a completely new level of BS. I can understand a business having an aversion to OC, but this???

I'm with follker, I got stuck with Chase when they bought WAMU and it's been an overwhelming disappointment, and this is just beyond stupid. And I've bought just about every firearm I own with a Chase debit card, plus all my ammo, reloading stuff, etc. etc. Is this even legal? To discriminate against a completely lawful & legitimate transaction?

I'm calling BS on this. Especially after the conversation that I had today (can read my post in general) Letterhead looks too much like it was done in word not like a professional letterhead for a large corporation, lack of company logo, Palm Bay is in FL, card that is on the page is from a casino in atlantic city. Third Paragraph starts with "Mr. Tom" Tom sounds more like a first name, I would expect that an "executive" at a multi billion dollar company would have enough of an education to use proper grammar in that siruation.

Really? Because he lives in FL and the card is from Atlantic City? I live in Spokane and have cards from Vegas. If I took a picture of one next to a document with my address would you call me a liar too? It took me 30 seconds to google Diane Castillo and find that there is in-fact a woman who works for Chase and lives in Huston by the same name.

http://www.linkedin.com/pub/diane-castillo/8/34/62b

Is it really too hard to believe this is posable from such an up-standing financial institution as JPMorgan Chase? This does not surprise me in the least.

If you really doubt it, call the number on the letter. See for yourself and record the audio.
