It appears that an Immigration Group is going to March On Vegas Strip
Saturday... Demonstration To Begin At 6 P.M.

LAS VEGAS -- Immigration rights activists have are shifting their anger from Arizona to Washington, D.C., and are planning another protest on the Las Vegas Strip this weekend.

Saturday’s march will begin at 6 p.m. in front of The Venetian resort and end in front of the Statue of Liberty at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino.

The march is organized by Reform Immigration For America, which released a statement calling on members of Congress to draft new immigration laws immediately.

That same group was behind protests of Arizona’s new immigration law, which was signed by Gov. Jan Brewer last month.

I would like to get a group together to show support of US and AZ! Anyone interested in getting together and going down to this?

^^^ +1,000

They're already equating supporters of AZ to the 1942 Nazi party. Anyone who shows with holstered weapons inmass is going to be on every liberal talk show that night taking a flogging of unspeakable proportion. It will not be good publicity.

This would be a great time to bring out the Gadsden flags and line the sidewalks.

Wow, I would be lying if I said I was not disappointed with the responses to this thus far. Obviously if I am not with a good size group of other OCers, I am not going to OC to this thing... It is however disheartening to see that there is not more support for AZ and the US on this.

I really wasn't thinking along the lines of "counter demonstration" I was simply thinking of showing up as a group and showing support for our fellow patriots from and in AZ and to the United States...

Our country is being over run by Illegals and it appears that there are a good number of people that just simply don't care. :( I for one DO care, I care about our Country, I care about the welfare of our citizens, and I care about our Flag, therefore I support AZ and I am really not ashamed or embarrassed to show that support.

A counter-demonstration is a good idea.

Unless you take a weapon.

Demonstrating while armed is a media magnet. ONE guy took ONE gun to a TEA Party in September, and it is still being talked about by the media.

If a bunch of women with brown skin went to counter-demonstrate while OC, that would be GREAT (the media will go nuts trying to figure out how to cover it) -- but I'm guessing that you're white, so all you would be is a "gun-toting racist." That would not only be counter-productive for your political point, it would trash OC.

Well as I see it, at this point in time Open Carry is a very political issue. The goal of the movement seems to be to normalize carry, to unpoliticize it so to speak. I think it would be best to avoid Open Carry being a "right wing" thing. I mean, the Tea Party really stood for something at it's birth, but partisan bickering essentially disolved it from its roots and we end up with a movement highly removed from the origional intent.

Now, I support your right to demonstate(if that's what you wanted to do) or to Open Carry at your leasure in all of your daily activities. I can really only speak for myself, but I would like for Open Carry to stay A-political.

Ahh, this is a "hot button" issue for me. Just because I've been following this closely for obvious reasons.

So, if Starbucks starts coming out and saying that we look like right wing gun toting extremists, do we put our guns up and not go there for fear of unwanted attention? Hmm...

Because of the fact that you WILL be looked at if you go there with a firearm, and it will bring unwanted attention, stirs and creates FEAR to us OC'er's, therefore nixing the whole idea. So what has actually just happened is what "they" want. You not to even show up with a firearm, and they have done this very effectively in the past.

I am torn on this one. I think right now in the state this country is in, we have a REAL need to OC, or just have firearms period. If you have seen some of the past immigration protests, they have been the ones violent, forcing police to back off, throwing things at the police.

Now, on the other side of the coin, how about Vegas OC'ers and like minded AMERICANS do their own march. Trust me, you do this and they will be the ones counter demonstrating, putting you in a "better light".

Just my .02. Its touchy. But let me ask you all, who is standing up for the American Citizen through all this.

hes right. its not a good idea, but than again. IF our goal is to normalize OC than wouldnt showing up to that event or any event to support our views and just so happen to be ocing be ok? thatd be like saying Susie cant show up to support her opinion with her purse. she carries her purse on a daily basis. we carry our guns. and we hope that it becomes something that ppl just say "oh thats normal" so he should go there not to express his gun rights. but to express his immigration rights, all without giving up his 2A.

I dunno, do they often call riot cops to Starbucks?

As far as I know, there is no law prohibiting you from driving your car into your swimming pool. That doesn't mean it's something that you should do.

What message do you want to send? Do you want to stand up and say that you want the immigration and border issues fixed, or do you want to be on network news as a racist extremist, who came to threaten peaceful protestors?

How would you like your picture to be used as an exhibit during the Congressional debate for the "Anti-Racist Handgun Act of 2011". . ?

Remember that The Media Are NOT Our Friends, thus will be happy to distort the issue and make us look like the KKK.

There was also "another side of the coin" portion to my post which was at the end of it.

Did you read any of that? How about a positive reply to that situation?

Personally, I think if you are a TRUE OCer, and make that apart of your daily life, and you happen to be in the area, what's the problem. Again, the media will do want it wants, they know this, so now they have you backed off of what you want to do, all from fear of how you will be portrayed in being a "law abiding AMERICAN CITIZEN."

There are also two sides to one story.

Riot Police called at Starbucks, probably not, but MWAG at any ole store, happens all the time. There is a trend, and exactly why there is an OC movement.

Like I said in my last post, why not OCer's do their own demonstration?

I carry everywhere I go. It is my normal routine. The fact that the media would call me names is of no concern to me. It is not what I carry but how I carry myself. In 1776 those that we now call patriots were then called traitors. Do you really believe that people who strongly object to illegal immigration are suddenly going to change their mind on this issue because they see a man, or woman, with a gun standing peaceably at a rally? Do most people know that the media is biased and looks to sensationalize the news rather than simply report it? By allowing them to make you change your routine for fear of "offending" their delicate sensibilities, you are playing into their hands.

Ok truth be told I agree with many of the points made here... There are a few points I would like to make as well. IF I was to show up to this event (which I am not as I ended up not coming to Vegas anyway) I was not planning on being an in your face extremist standing on top of the jersey barriers yelling racial slurs and acting like a fool...

I agree if you show up to something like this waving a huge American flag and holding a sign that says "Mexicans go home" you would in deed get some negative press. (with or without a gun on your hip, this would be a BAD IDEA...) and I am by no means saying the media wouldn't twist your being there into something it was not... but then they can do that anywhere we go when we are OCing right??

I also agree that if we are trying to "Normalize" OC, then it should be done all the time, going to the grocery store, or to the laundromat or to dinner or to anything else you would do or anywhere you would go in normal every day life... If you go to the strip, OC, if you go to the park (considering there are no laws against it) OC, If you go to a rally, OC... Do it as if it were NORMAL for you to do it, this is how we "Normalize" something...

This topic was originally posted because I thought it would be another place for a group of us to get together and promote our cause as a group as well as support or fellow patriots and countrymen... It was not intended to cause some sort of break between our own group, but it obviously has, seemingly because there are many different levels or types of OCer...

There are those that will OC all the time and do it to make a statement and to normalize the sight of Openly Carried firearms, they would not hesitate to carry into a police station or Library or yes even to a rally such as this...

Then there is the opposite extreme who do it on occasion and only because they are wearing summer clothes and are just running to home depot for a box of nails.. Now I fall somewhere in between those two.

Honestly, I OC all the time right now because I am waiting for my CCW to come in the mail... That said when it gets here I have an IWB Crossbreed Supertuck Holster that is much more comfortable to wear than my OC rig so I will probably CC more often than not. I will however OC when I feel like it, it is after all my right to do so, or when I am going to an OC event or other gun related get together. I believe in our 2nd amendment with all my heart and will do what I can to make sure we don't lose those rights! I would consider myself a patriot and am proud of that. I am also NOT afraid to show it openly! :D

If I was to go down there it would be as a subliminal troll. Act like I was with them. While carrying a sign that said "Immigration Reform: LEMONPARTYdotORG"
WARNING THAT SIGHT IS NSFW. THATS WHY I SPELLED OUT THE DOT. IT'S PRETTY DISGUSTING. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Hint it has 3 old men doing something pretty gross.

Lol lemon party.

I attended this(CC), everything was very civil, there were lots of cops. Everyone seemed to behave themselves. There didn't seem to be any counter-protesters present from what I saw.

Found it interesting one of the demonstration spokespersons was saying on the news they mostly want the president of the US to hear what they have to say, while in the background the demonstrators were chanting in Spanish. I had no idea what they were sayingtherefore, this would lead me to believe that our president is fluent in Spanish.

I know, It took me forever to figure out what they were even talking about. One chant was "Obama escucha, estamos en la lucha" or something. At first I was like "Obama? **** that!"Then I realized they weren't praising obama, just telling him to listen to them. Should have tried English, it works slightly better. =P
