More than two dozen people openly carried their guns to Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

The group of gun carriers came out in protest of city ordinances regarding the open carrying of handguns and the regulation of gun dealers.

They say two of the city’s ordinances about guns contradict state law, and

they want the ordinances changed.

Drawing attention to their point, men and women from all over the state attended the meeting with handguns openly holstered on their hips and thighs.

“We just want them to be in compliance with the state constitution,” resident Jeff French said.

French, a member of Michigan Open Carry, is leading the charge to have the ordinances changed.

“With these ordinances, technically, if an individual is carrying a firearm legally, they can be arrested and their firearm can be confiscated and sold at auction,” he said. “It’s not a good situation.”
