But be carefule folks - some have reported a K-12 school nearby Lafayette Veterans Memorial Hall - California is the only other state besides Wisconsin to have a 1,000 foot gun carry ban beyond school grounds (louisisana and Georgia reportedly repealed their bans this year).

Open Carry Allowed To, Well, "Carry" At Lafayette Forum

The very nice folks at the Commonwealth Club have confirmed that members of "Open Carry" will be allowed to wear their iron during an upcoming open forum on the movement and Second Amendment rights at the Lafayette Veterans Memorial Hall.

"The (Veterans Hall) policy governing their building is the same as that governing the state and so open carry will not be prohibited," said Commonwealth Club Program Coordinator Camille Koué.

"We are doing a panel on the same topic in San Francisco on May 26th and open carry will not be allowed at that one because the building management does not allow weapons into the building," she added. "So we have to go along with whatever the policy is at the venue we are using."

"Guns in Public, Exploring California's Open Carry Policy" will be debated by Lori Saldaña, California State Assembly Member and author of AB1934 - legislation that would make carrying even an unloaded, holstered firearm for anything except parade purposes a misdemeanor; Karen Arntzen, California Chapter Services Coordinator, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Adnan Shahab, Republican candidate for State Assembly and an Open carry advocate.
