Nevada used to recognize my FL CWP, but no longer. If I were to visit Las Vegas sometime, I would prefer to have a CWP [to avoid any problems - accidental concealment/OC unfriendly businesses]. From what I've read it appears you have to appear in person and have to take a class in NV (Florida class doesn't count). I've found nothing indicating how long it takes. Do they issue immediately [since I already have a CWP from my home state] or do you have to wait three months (I was without a CWP for about a month while my renewal was being processed because of this) like here in FL ? Having to wait [if you can't apply ahead of time] would kinda defeat the point of getting a permit, unless you planned to visit multiple times. Any other information ? Cost, etc...?

as far as I know you have to take the course and range qualification in nv and i think you can have the form mailed to you but you need to show up in person. the amout of cw permit applications is rising about 5klast yearit took me 4 weeks to get my permit the sheriff can give you a temp permit if there is sufficient need but i never heard of one being issued. the cosst is 100.25 in clak county or you can call and find out more info

another way to go is handgunlaw.us lists all the states that nv honors and we are adding three more since nv honors non-resident permits you might check on some of those states

All Nevada CFP instruction must take place in the State of Nevada. Nonresidents must apply in the county where the instruction is held. I believe the application fee is $100.25. They have up to 120 days to process your application. It can take that long. Las Vegas has a lot of instructors, so it's not hard to find one. Permits are good for 5 years. Good luck!

"120 Days" and "in person" are the two key sticking points...If I were to take a trip to Vegas, I couldn't apply until I arrived and I wouldn't receive the permit until long after I'd left. It wouldn't be of any use unless and until I took a second trip to the state [within 5 years.] Can it be renewed by mail or does it have to be renewed in person also ? Do they accept Non-Resident permits from states they still have reciprocity with ? Are there any of those states I can get a permit from without having to go there ?

No you have to appear in person and go through a 4 hr course and requalify with your weapons. They only mail you the permit once you've gone in person to apply. Same for everyone Theres people in NV that live 2 hrs from the sheriffs office and have to go through this every 5 years. It's a PITA.

Just jumping in here.....be sure you bring each firearm you want on your license as you have to qualifie with each one (except one revolver will do ). Each firearm will be listed on the back of your permit that you can carry concealed.

I would still get the Nevada permit. Your plans to visit Nevada can always change. Yes, you're going to spend between 200-300 bucks and it's a good chunk of change. I figure that I would rather spend the money getting the permit than losing it in the casino or spending it on tourist stuff. I have done and still enjoy doing both, so I know it's a tough choice.

Fla. requires proof of firearms compatentcy from a list that is provided with their application. I suppose this proves you have had live fire .

Florida requires a course which includes live fire. The permit allows you to carry any lawfully-owned handgun. Sort of like a driver's license where you have to take a road test (live-fire), but you can drive any car you want. Can you imagine if everyone had to register and qualify on every car they ever drive...including rentals/loaners ? I've driven (the first 5 before my 18th birthday):

1) Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser
2) Ford Taurus
3) Pontiac Transport
4) Chevrolet S-10
5) Chevrolet 1500 Van
6) U-Haul Diesel Truck (Rental)
7) Chevrolet 1500 Van
8) Dodge RAM 1500 (Rental)
9) Dodge RAM 1500
10) Ford Taurus (Rental)
11) Mazda Compact Car (Rental) - Don't remember the model
...
That's doesn't include all the rental cars, as I only remember a few of them.

While your logic is sound and I do agree with you, I do not like to compare a privilege (drivers license) with a right (firearms) UNLESS we quickly point out the difference. (This is not criticism!)

I do think we have a good chance of enacting (in the next legislative session) "any semi-auto" just like we now have "any revolver." I think we would have gained it in the 2009 session had it not been for the AssemblyJudiciary Committee Chairman, Bernie Anderson.
