California Bill to Outlaw Open Carry Passes Assembly, Heads to Senate

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

Please Contact Your State Senator Today! Yesterday, Tuesday, June 1, the California Assembly passed Assembly Bill 1934 by a vote of 41-25. AB1934 now heads to Senate for consideration.

Simply put, AB1934 would outlaw the open carrying of a handgun for self-defense. This bill is a blatant attack on the self-defense rights of law-abiding Californians.

AB1934 is a knee-jerk reaction by anti-gun legislators to punish citizens for engaging in the legal act of openly carrying an unloaded handgun. In reality, the open carrying of firearms by law-abiding citizens is forced by

...California's unfair concealed carry law, which allows some citizens from some counties to receive a permit to carry, while their neighbors in the next county are denied that basic right for political, not public safety, reasons.

I just sent a message to my state senator, Carol Liu (D-CA 21st District), in opposite of AB 1934. I basically used the petition's argument, edited it so it's coming from "me" (opposed to "we'), and trimmed it down to less than 2000 characters.

I sort of hope it passes, then leads to a SCOTUS case which rolls back the laws to pre black panther days. If it does pass, it certainly has the potential to be thefinal strawof politician stupidity, ignorance and arrogance that finally breaks the camels back and brings the bill of rights back to California. I know it's such a far gone state that many would call this wishful thinking, but it's probably the best hope I've seen for California in my lifetime.

I clicked on the link, and filled in the information needed. Another page opened up displaying the Govenor, My Rep Paul Cook,

but for the senator it says: Sen. Vacant Seat (R-37).

If I click on that another page opens and says the page could not be found.

I thought they were all Vacant Seats anyway.

you can still write all the others. I have. ;)

and I am still wondering why we have vacant seats. Anyone care to guess?
Started. Under Aanestad it say my address is not in his district. and it won't let me post. I imagine it'll be the same for all the others.

type out a letter, and mail it in. snail mail, hand written address label looks good for them, they take a real look.

if you use facebook, most have pages.

I have rec, thanks back from about 20 so far. Rep's saying they will vote no, and dems saying thanks for writing,(form letter).

we did get some dems in the assm to change how they were going to vote, so every letter helps.

California Open Carry to become illegal if CA AB1934 and AB1810 pass in the California Senate. They have passed the other hurdles. These Bills are just another example of wasted time and ill-conceived legislation, and are even unfair and unjust. I despise this jkind of legislation. Ms Saldana, as an author of this legislation, you are not a very good legislator IMHO. Spending your time Taking away the Rights of honest people who have done no harm to anyone is not anhonorable way to spend your/our time.

AB1934 Disallows open carry of handguns in California. It has 9,581 words in the bill according to my computer. I would like you to actually read every word and understand every meaning and nuance and any unintended consequences carefully and ponder them for a day or two before you even consider being onboard with AB 1934.

An unstated consequence of AB1934 would make a person who has a permit to carry concealed (CCW) into a criminal if his handgun is suddenly exposed by the wind or accidentally, etc. as his weapon is then open carry and illegal.

AB1810 has 25,455 words in the Bill according to my computer. I would like you to actually read every word and understand every meaning and nuance and any unintended consequences carefully and ponder them for a day or two before you even consider being onboard with AB 1810.

Another consequence of these bills is that the fairness and justice is removed. Namely, it removes a first offender from seeking dismissal or reduced penalties in the interest of justice, in case of overzealous prosecution or other, since those words are deleted from this Bill. That is nasty, and for why? [Ref PC 12037 (5) (c) (2) of this Bill]. It takes the options away from a Judge. And a Judge is one of the People's best and last defenses in the interests of Justice. Aside from the media.

excuse me, did you go to the state to get your license to exercise freedom of speech.

because if we keep letting the Government limit our rights this is what will happen when the conversion to Socialismgets done in America. So let me ask you a question, are you supporting a communistic agenda? because every time you try to give the government more power you get less freedom.

Did you even vote in the last election from Fresno or are you just performing agent provocateur tasks for the above mention bunch? I understand that they cannot afford to spend money that they do not have, but aren't you just a little embarrassed to be working in conjunction with such a nearly defunct group?

Yata hey
