Queston about IANAL

Frequently on this site as well as other forums or in person to person chatting, many of us who deal with firearms issues discuss laws and ordinances relating to our issues.

We have questions, we make comments and we give and receive answers. Many times we quote specific laws, try to decipher them and get a better understanding of them.

I sometimes get a bit worried because I know I am not allowed to act as a lawyer but I don't know the rules specifically to this. I hope that the chatting I do is well within reason as well as the law. It seems to me that citizens shouldn't have to use a lawyer's service to try to get a better understanding of all the rules we have to live under in this country and that alot of that should be freely left up to ourselves to pursue and explain. I try to explain to my teenagers what they can lawfully do as best as I can. I also get into debates with other people and specifically reference statutes or ordinances to help back up my position.

I just wanted other people's input on this topic, especially anyone who understands it pretty good. I thought it was relevant to open carry since we do have to educate ourselves so we can stay within the limits of the law while also exercising our rights to carry firearms.

I view the intraweb as a nifty tool for folks to bounce ideas off each other. Sometimes, I'll wonder to myself: "Self, I wonder if action A would get me arrested or if it is legal."

So I'll post..knowing full well that what I am getting is simply ANOTHER PERSON'S PERSPECTIVE.

The true test is whether an officer, upon seeing me perform action A, will, in fact, arrest me. This is between myself and Mr. Officer.

Sometimes, I see another poster asking: "Hello Forum! Is action B illegal?"

So, I will peruse the laws and ordinances, and seeing nothing that catches my eye towards it's illegality, will offer MY PERSPECTIVE:

"Nope! Looks as altruistic as helping a little old lady across the street, to me! Action B makes me warm and fuzzy!"

Now. IANAL. This is the intraweb! All things here are worth exactly as much as you pay for them. I know that when I go out and perform action A, what happens is laying squarely on my own shoulders. I am the one who chose to perform action A, I will be the one to reap the rewards, or the repurcussions of action A.

So, if you go out and perform action B.....it's on you. You should know that I am simply sitting here offering my 2 cents. If Officer Hardass knocks you to the ground and hauls you off in chains.......

...Don't come back here crying "You said action B was warm and fuzzy! You got me arrested!"

NOPE. You got you arrested.

I can expound on the material used to construct the moon. Just because I say it's made of green cheese, doesn't make it true. It's simply my 2 cents.

Same way with legal advice. My opinion doesn't make action B legal. YOU are the one going to jail if I'm wrong. I'm just simply offering my 2 cents. Just what the intraweb was designed for. (That, porn, and buying stuff from Midway USA.)

Thanks for your input Superlite. That's pretty much exactly how I see it and I also try to caution others that their choices andactionsare ultimately their responsibility.

I hope there isn't some legal ramification for discussing the law while not being licensed to practice it. Talking about it freely and for free doesn't seem like it would be practicing law to me.
