Anyone have any experiences in the Mall of Louisiana? I don't go to Baton Rouge often, but my little girl wants to go ride the carousel and go to build a bear.Just wondering what to expect. Thank you for any and all input.

I've never had any trouble, been there probably 4 or 5 times, last time about a month ago, with wife and daughter after her doctors appointment, went to just about every store there. even had 3 state troopers walking behind us for a few minutes. They just nodded and went onabout their business. But I do remember someone last year that had trouble or maybe even longer back. One guy working in Brookshire asked about the FNH P-90 shirt I had on and if it was a real weapon, we laughed about it, told him I had a P-90 and wish I could carry it, he asked if I was a cop, told him no, just exercising my rights, lol he asked how much that cost, we laughed some more, gave him a LOCAL pamplet, he said he would check it out. so all in all it was a good day.

Never got the chance actually ( women changing their minds) I did briefly speak to two TPSO's in the Hammond Wal- Mart who didn't bat an eye, also fought the CROWD at Bass Pro to get some bolt grease. Only got one funny look from the guy trying to get me to sign up for a credit card. When we were checking out, who I think was the store manager ( white shirt) had someone open another register for us and was very courteous as we left. I am very curious about the Mall of Louisiana. Perhaps some of the gentlemen in the Baton Rouge area would share their experiences.

I just remembered, isn't Baton Rouge the home of the ultimate " real oc'er". He should have experience with the mall of louisiana. How 'bout it, any thoughts, or is this virgin territory?

Last night i was asked to leave while my wife was checking out at the JCPenney's there. But then they said i could stay if i put my weapon in the car. Got to talk to BRSO who is stationed there. He was pretty cool about it. Really nice guy. He seemed to pretty much agree that it was silly not to have signs up if they didn't want anyone carrying. But at the same time, they want to avoid painting the edges of some portions of the sidewalk red because they don't like the look. I have carried a couple times before, but I don't think much anyone really noticed those times.

Is this the only time in that mall? Also, did you leave and put your weapon away? I think I would have taken my money elsewhere personally. Also were you still armed when you spoke to the officer, and who called him?

It was the only time at that mall. My wife and sister wanted to keep shopping, so I was more concerned with keeping them happy at the moment. My understanding is customers told staff who told store security. And I think that it was them who alerted the sheriff stationed there. When the officer came up and made introductions, he then asked me to remove the magazine without taking it out of the holster. Which was interesting because until then i wasn't sure if i could do since it was in a Fobus holster. He then took the gun to his car to see if it was stolen. I thought it was weird way of handling the situation, but I didn't feel like arguing that he didn't need to or anything. Then after a minute or so he called me over to his car and we ended up talking for a few minutes. Really cool and nice guy. He was trying to convince me to go ahead and get a CCW so I could still carry there in the future without disturbing other patrons. I think we talked for a good 5 minutes before he gave me my gun back. But I had to put it up if i wanted to stay but i had parked on the other side of the store. So then we had to wait for an escort to bring us around and to the car.

But the security guard was kind of annoying. He just kept saying that it was private property and that's why i couldn't carry there. Didn't quite seem to get or care that it's generally alright because CRIMINALS DON'T USE HOLSTERS. And that if they don't want people carrying, they need signs.

Did you get his name? What law enforcement agency does he work for...this is the exact same situation other people are finding themselves in...being told that their right to open carry is not as important as a non carrying citizens rights. Were does his authority to check your weapon come from? This needs to be addressed with the commander of the law enforcement agency that the officer works for. You were right to not argue to point with the officer as that could have escalated the situation.

When you're right you're right. I am so sick of hearing the " I don't feel safe with you carrying argument." How about we start complaining when we see someone not oc'ing. I don't feel safe being the only armed person here, I don't have enough ammo on me to protect everyone. FEELINGS DON'T MEAN S#!T!! This is about rights. Whoever complained sure as hell doesn't have a RIGHT to the cellphone they used to call. I do have a RIGHT to carry a weapon.

So....now what?...At this point is seems that most law enforcement agencies know that we can open carry legally in La. Now they seem to be trying to convince us that we can and will be constantly harassed if we do open carry...anything short of an actual arrest...I want to know what can an officer do and what they can not do when they run into one of us who happens to be open carrying. Here are 2 alternatives>>>>

#1 To have a written opinion from an attorney of the rulings and statutes which spell out what a officer can and can not do when they see us, and then I want to have an ATTORNEY send the head of every law enforcement agency who violates OUR rights a letter spelling out what can and will happen if they continue to harass us. The more people who are willing to sign on to this the better the chance that our rights will be acknowledged. One person is meaningless..a whole group of people is much different and has a good chance of getting what WE want..to be left alone as long as we are not breaking any laws.

OR

#2 But hey..we can always just sit around and do nothing except complain and endlessly talk about our RIGHTS and how everyone should magically and automatically know and respect them with out having to lift a finger to help ourselves. Yep..someone will come along and do the work for us so we can get something for nothing...

Which kind of person am I??? I am for doing something..anyone else just tired of endlessly talking??

The problem with this unsolicited advice is that it is wrong and could get your permit revoked. The MoA is a No Gun mall. The store you were in does not allow guns. There is no exception for CHP permittes to carry concealed. By carrying concealed inn a establishment which has made it clear that it has a No Guns policy you are violating your CHP, declaring it null and void. You could be charged with illegal carry of a weapon and other charges since your CHP does not apply in that business. A good discussion it at Bayou Shooter right now. Go to http://www.bayoushooter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41086&page=2 and make sure to see Nolacop's reply at post #20.
