Has anyone had experience with the gun free school zone law?

I live in a small beach city and one of the schools is about 3 blocks from the beach. By the crow flies its about 1000 feet from the school across the street from a local starbucks that is on a block adjacent to the beach where I was considering OCing. However due to streets and sidewalks, to get to the school it would be far more than 1000 feet.

Does anyone have any tools they use for mapping school zones, some sort of google map plug-in?

What I do (if I want to make myself cry and pull my hair out) is to bust open Google Earth, open the ruler tool, and draw lines from wherever the edge of the school is to wherever I may be traveling.

Do you do just straight up as the crow flies radius?

Or is it distance one would travel to get from point A to the school?

    Fixed it for you.

1000' as the crow flies from the edge of the school property, not the school bldg.
