Kudos to Harris and Webb for standing their ground and protecting their rights.

It's time all of us step out of the closet and be proud to carry. The more the public gets used to seeing us ordinary law-abiding citizens carrying our guns the more they will see it as normal and not be afraid.

My husband and I plan on attending the picnic in the Marysville park June 27th!!

among all the hate and ignorance, i found this comment on the article:
"I'm ashamed that the MPD acted so unprofessional towards these two law-abiding citizens. I live in this town to know that the department is lacking in professionalism and understanding the law really upsets me.

I'm wondering if I took a walk thru town wearing my holstered gun - would I get hassled the same as these two men??

What these men have done is an awakening for us to come out of the closet with our guns and show that we do have the right to carry. For those of you who are afraid when you see a citizen carrying a gun - get yourselves one and get EDUCATED."

it's nice to see the positive influence that good press can have

You may just have to wait a moment. I have Vista and, though it took a few seconds to load (about 30) it then played fine.

It's truly disappointing that, not only are we forced to deal with this level of incompetence daily, but then those whom we are supposed to turn to for help use excuses like "I'm not going to second guess my officers in the field". Why not? It's not like they're working a L.A. or Detroit beat. If your foot soldiers are wading through blood every day then yes, you afford them a higher level of decision making and call them out less for mistakes. But, is this not Marysville MI? When you have a small budget and can only get a limited number of LEO's on the job then why not second and third guess them. LE should be a competitive job with only the best.

Is it wrong to feel bad for the others in the department? Assistant Chief Ron Buckmaster and Chief Tim Buelow just put the whole department in a bad light.

I think it says it all in the first seconds of the recording when the officer said "I don't care" and later in when he says "your idea of the law and mine are 2 different things" That does it right there. The OC'er took time to study that "mumbo jumbo" we call the MCL and the LEO did not. He should be relieved of duty or at least sent back to the academy to learn the MCL's that he is supposed to enforce. "You know what, sue me then" someone should. I'm ashamed that I tell my children that they can trust the police. I hope it never comes down to them having to trust this one or the Jackson BK LEO.

Perhaps the most bothersome issue here though is that I imagine officers, who respect their position, love their job and are out of work because MI can't afford them. That’s sad that Buckmeister gets the job rather than the one who truly deserves it.

And what’s with the two officers in uniform? By definition Buckmeister was the one being "disorderly". All of the yelling was done by him.

Disorderly

-adjective[/i]

1. characterized by disorder; irregular; untidy; confused

+1 slugslinger
and i'd like to add that ever since my daughter witnessed me being harassed by marysville pd, i've rethought how i teach her about police. now i tell her that police are USUALLY our friends, but that sometimes they get it wrong. and that you should never do something a police officer tells you that you KNOW is wrong.

the same way you would transport it anywhere... shooting range, hunting, etc. there are state and federal laws dictating legal transport of a firearm. since you don't have a CPL, you need to have it unloaded and secured in your trunk. if you don't have a trunk, unload it and lock it in a case and transport in the passenger compartment.

We are not defenseless, no pun intended. Vote. Take the time to find out where the politicians that represent you stand on the issues. Vote for those that support freedom and the constitution. If you have a particular elected official that represents all things you like except the 2nd Amendment, try to educate them. They are human too and maybe just don't understand the issues well enough themselves. It is always possible that the only opinions he/she may have heard have come from the anti-gun crowd. They are often very loud. We need to be louder.

We also need to be mindful of the quiet anti-gunners who are seeking office. Many reports stated that many politicians have lost in the past few years because they were verbal about their anti-gun views. We need to ferret these people out and make sure everyone knows where they stand on our freedoms.

Whether the two guys (patriots in my mind) intended to stir this issue up or not, here it is. Keep the fires burning. If you look at the TH comments they are still growing in number. The biggest problem in my mind is the public's general ignorance on the issues. The mainstream media, Hollywood and most liberals who are supported by anti-gunners have painted us as scary people, rednecks, hillbillies, pick your term.

It seems fair game to mock folks for sticking to their "bibles and guns" like it is a bad thing. I prefer my traditional, freedom-loving views to the socialist crap that is growing around us. If someone mocks my freedom they will not get my vote and everyone I come into contact with will know why.

I was told that in 2006 that the law was changed and that you could transport (legally of course- trigger or action lock, ammo seperated, in a case) to anywhere that you could legally have a gun. I have done a lot of looking and I cannot find that law. I would really like a copy of it. Or does this fall into the range, hunting, service or sale type of transport.

Oh and you can count me in and Mrs. Slugslinger (we'll just call her crackshot)

AMEN BROTHER- You would assume that most of the members here do vote.

I wonder.....Of all of 'em, anywhere, we should be filling the booths.

there are now 475 comments on the newspapers website on this article. if nothing else, this article has evoked a response from both sides of the issue. it's incredible. we've got people signing up to come to the picnic from 200+ miles away.

The gun doesn't need to be locked or have a trigger lock. You don't need to separate the ammo although the gun does have to be unloaded.

Also check here http://www.cjrpc.com/interstate_1.htm
A handgun needs to be cased & transported in the trunk or if no trunk, the case needs to be locked and inaccessible to the people in the vehicle.
