Just got back from Walmart. . . .

Went to Wally World to buy some 17 hmr with my brother and when we got to the sporting goods counter the employee asked me if my 1911 was loaded. I of course said yes and he informed me that people who are carrying loaded guns and purchasing ammo must be escorted out of the store. He said it was nothing about me, just that his this was his manager's policy.

When a manager showed up the employee told him I had a loaded gun and asked him to escort me out. The manager told me "I was free to go" but walked with me about a hundred feet. He mentioned that "he didn't think OCers were a problem, just don't piss them off."

For the employee's defense, he seemed new and was probably just ignorant of Walmart's policy and trying to do his job. Not a bad encounter, just an odd one, as I've never had a problem OCing at Walmart prior to this.

It seems like that would be a "seemingly" reason policy if your gun was UNLOADED, however if it is loaded I fail to see the point. Overall it seemed like it went well. I was just over at the wally world myself, and as I came up to my car I found a guy staring at my car. At first I got concerned, and started to kind of loiter around to see if he was going to try to open the door or anything. After a moment or two his buddy was about 10 feet beyond him and says, "What, you like Miatas or something?" and he was like "Huh? Oh, no I was just checking out that sticker... it says 'Carry Daily; Apply Sparingly...'" and he went off to talk about it but I didn't quite hear the rest of the conversation. I was kind of curious though.

i think its clear that walmart is antigun no matter what corporate tells you

they probably donate to the bradys

It means he doesn't like walmart for completely different reasons but is trying to use gun policy to push an agenda against them.

So wally is extending their "escort" policy to armed persons who buy ammo? I always thought that was ironic that I could walk into the store with a CCW permit and a loaded gun on me, buy a brand new gun with no background check (remember those days?) and then the manager had to duct tape the freaking box shut and walk me to the door, the whole time I'm the one who was armed but they don't trust me to carry my new gun.

I agree with Varminter. I've never had a problem at Walmart, and they sell guns and ammo at Walmart so I doubt they are conspiring to make it harder to sell guns and ammo.

I've bought ammo at Walmart many times including just last week and I've never been escorted out.

Same here. I OC at the Henderson one (Lake Mead and Boulder) all the time, often picking up a box or two of ammo while I'm there. In fact, I did that just yesterday before the wife and I headed out to Desert Hills for some plinking. None of the sporting goods employees at that store (including the sporting goods manager) have ever had any sort of issue with me buying ammo while OCing, nor have they ever escorted me out.
