Janesville has a city council with the power to enact new city laws, amend present laws, and repeal existing ones. The city manager carries out their directions. I just sent the following email to all the council members:
Dear Janesville City Council Members,
I recently became aware of city ordinance 9.84.010 which prohibits residents from carrying a pistol or revolver. This ordinance has been made void and unenforceable by State Statute 66.0409, since the ordinance is more stringent than Chapter 941 of the Wisconsin State Statutes. To avoid any confusion, I believe this ordinance should be changed to comply with state law. I would be greatly appreciative if you would see to it that this issue is addressed at the next city council meeting.
Thank you,
