Double Shooting at Chesterfield Pizzeria
Husband is arrested and charged after shooting his wife and a 18-year old bystander.
CHESTER - One woman is dead and an 18-year-old man is in the hospital after a double shooting at a pizzeria in Chesterfield County.
It happened Wednesday night about 8:15 p.m. at the Pietro's Pizza in the 2600 block of Osborne Road in Chester. Police say that 56-year-old Richard E. Parker and his wife, 45-year-old Cindy M. Parker, were involved in an argument, when the 18-year-old interjected to try and prevent the situation from escalating into violence.
That is when investigators say Parker pulled out a gun, shot the teen and then shot his wife. Officers say that Parker then got in his car and drove away, but was followed by a witness who called police. Parker was caught a short time later.
Both Cindy Parker and the 18-year-old victim were rushed to VCU Medical Center. Parker later died while the teen is in critical condition.
CBS 6 has learned from multiple sources that the teen who was shot was Michael Dudley, a recent Thomas Dale High School graduate who planned to attend Virginia State University in the fall on a full football scholarship.
Dudley is being called a hero by his friends and his family, but police urge anyone who witnesses a violent altercation not to intervene if they feel their safety could be in danger.
Meantime, Richard Parker appeared in Chesterfield Court twice Thursday, both by video conference. He's charged with second-degree murder and firearms charges in connection with the death of his wife. The charges related to the shooting of Dudley are not being pursued in General District court, instead a judge felt they should be filed in conjunction with Parker's other charges in Juvenile Domestic Relations court, but will have to come from the Grand Jury.
In court Thursday, CBS 6 learned Parker has been out of work for the past year and a half and says he can't afford an attorney, so counsel was appointed for him.
A grand jury will hear the case in either July or September, until then Parker will remain behind bars without bond.
