I finally received my LTCH about a month ago. I made the decision after reading the posts on this site to excercise the right to OC so we don't lose them. I have been OCing in Walkerton, LaPorte and South Bend. I have felt a little self conscious, but I have had no confrentations. I have been OCing everywhere I go. When I went to purchase a gun, they told me Indiana was a CC state. With the help of this site, I am aware of the true laws. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Take the time to get a digital voice recorder and leave it on whenver you OC. It will come in handy when LEO get out of hand.

Other OCers

I am glad to hear there are other people OCing in my area. I was at the Zoo in South Bend today but did not OC because of what I had on. They had no rules saying I couldn't though, I read them...Has anyone had any problems in South Bend?

Welcome and IN/MI carry

Welcome to OCing N. Indiana!

MI does honor our IN LTCH.

I am in no way flaming you when I suggest this OK? In the future I highly recommend you do your own research. You don't want a gun related arrest because you took Internet advice.

What are the laws for carrying across the state line into Michigan with an Indiana LTCH?

No problem. Your IN LTCH, assuming you are a resident of IN, covers you for CC and OC. It is considered the same as a Michigan CPL (Concealed Pistol License=LTCH for all purposes but purchase of a handgun)

The nice thing about OC w/ a LTCH in Michigan, you may carry openly almost anywhere except a courtroom and Detroit Casinos. (FED law and Fed Building still apply, as do sterile areas of airport.

**
“…My office has contacted the Michigan State Police legislative liaison and has received some answers to share with you. According to the liaison, it is legal to openly carry a firearm in a "Pistol Free Zone" if you are a licensed CPL holder. I was advised that your information was correct that MCL 28.425o and MCL 750-234d permit this activity. I was informed that there was no other additional relevant laws regarding this matter…” Michael A Prusi, State Senator 38th District

“Your analysis is correct. Non-CPL pistol free zones do not apply to CPL holders. The CPL pistol free zones only apply to CPL holders carrying a concealed pistol. Therefore, a CPL holder may openly carry a pistol in Michigan's pistol free zones.” Sgt. Thomas Deasy, Michigan State Police Executive Resource Section
