I have the 340pd (hammerless model) and everything about it is great except the recoil. You have to shoot one to actually understand what kind of recoil it delivers, unlike anything I have ever shot. It is not a range gun, and using .38 instead of .357 helps some but still kicks like the proverbial mule on steroids. The light weight makes it a great carry gun but it is for short range only due to the recoil.

I had one.

I got it used and very well priced. The recoil when using .357 magnum rounds is pronounced and by shot number three your control really begins to suffer. I used to feel my teeth rattle. After much training with the .357 I quite enjoyed shooting .38 even the +p through it. My extractor also had a tendency to unscrew itself with the .357 rounds. It is a very light j-frame and with a good holster and is a real pleasure to carry. I liked that in an emergency situation I could use .357 ammunition in it but find it way over priced for what is in all respects just a lightweight .38 revolver. I would not buy another and would either get a dedicated lightweight revolver in .38 or a heavier .357 depending on how important the weight vs. caliber is to you. Good luck and lets us know what you get.

Most people shoot .38 special out of those scandium or titanium revolvers. I decided instead of spending big bucks on a new scandium 340pd to just get a used 337 titanium airlite.

It works fine and is easy to carry in a pocket or ankle holster. It's the little one next to the x frames.
