Law Against Private Gun Sales?

Is there a law in Austin TX or the surrounding areas that makes it illegal to sell your guns to another private individual? The reason I ask is because a friend of mine was just arrested in the Wimberley area for responding to a classified ad. When he met the guy to sell the guns the cops came in and arrested him on felony charges (what exactly I am not sure). How is this possible?

As far as I know it is 100% LEGAL for private citizens to sell firearms to each other in TX unless they are federally restristed firearms (Full auto's, Silenced, etc...). Please post back when you find out more info. I'm pretty interested now.

I would ASSuME that it is only illegal to sell to a known felon, right? Did the ad say something like 'Wanted to buy, 9mm to commit bank robbery'?
