It usually helps if you enter your location in your profile. You can do that up at the top right where it says "My Profile"

While it would be nice to include a couple more details in your post, the other guys could calm down a bit, it is the Nevada forum, where do you think the shooting happened? Just looking at the size of Las Vegas, compared to everything else in the state, i would start there first. :)

I saw this posted somewhere:

Services have been scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Las Vegas Country Club at 3000 Joe W. Brown Drive, near Desert Inn and Paradise roads. The services are open to the public.

I think I may attend, anyone else want to go?

I was waiting to find out where the service was going to be held. I will definitely be there to show my support for the Scott family.

Are you serious? Google it...

Your post reminds me of an old broadcast industry joke:

"And now for today's sports scores. 33 to 24, 17 to 5, a cliffhanger at 41 to nothing . . ."

You supplied insufficient information, and spent a lot more time and effort to CONTINUE not providing enough information.

I'm going to assume that your references are in Las Vegas, or at least in Clark County somewhere, but I'm hundreds of miles away from there, not too far from Bullion and 5th.

Gee, who could have possibly predicted a "technical problem" with the video? Try to walk out without paying for something, and I bet it works perfectly!

Police Have Not Viewed Costco Surveillance Tapes

POSTED: JUL 15, 2010 7:34 PM
UPDATED: JUL 15, 2010 7:59 PM

LAS VEGAS -- Detectives investigating an officer involved shooting at a Summerlin Costco have still not viewed surveillance video of the incident.

Officers opened fire on Erik Scott on Saturday after Costco employees said he was destroying store merchandise and had a gun. Police say Scott pointed his gun at officers before they fired their weapons, but witness statements contradict information released by investigators. Scott was a West Point graduate with a valid concealed weapons permit.

Detectives hope to view surveillance video of the incident, but have sent it for forensic examination because of a technical issue with Costco's recording equipment. It's still unclear if the incident was even captured on video or if the equipment was working properly the day of the shooting.

According to Scott's father, Erik was in the store shopping for water bottles. "He was in Costco looking for metal water bottles and tried them out to see if they would fit in the cooler he had. There was a Costco employee there with him at the time. From there forward we have a pretty good picture what happened," said William Scott.

Police have also refused to release the 911 tapes made during the incident. A coroner's inquest into the shooting has not been scheduled, but it is expected to happen sometime in September.

Wish I would have seen that the services were today! Would have been there to show my respects. I think lvmpd messed up this time, but its not the first time either. Its was just a couple years ago they shot the kid that was in handcuffs running away and they shot him in the back. of course it was a justified shooting.

This is the 17th officer involved shooting this year and every single one has been justified. I have a strange feeling that a lot of our tax money is being paid out to someone to get all of these shooting as "justified".

Gee, who could have possibly predicted a "technical problem" with the video? Try to walk out without paying for something, and I bet it works perfectly!

If I were the lawyer for the family, I would subpoena the guy at Costco whose job is to work the equipment, and ask him how many times in the past year they have needed video of a shoplifter and had the same "technical difficulties."

I would also get the tech rep and ask what the level of reliability should be for the equipment, how many times Costco has call in with this problem, and if there is something with Costco's system that makes it not work when it's so important.

My advice to Costco and the PD are to just accept the fact that this one doesn't pass the smell test, and all they can do is make themselves look ever worse by keeping up with this story.

A few things bother me,

first and foremost, the lack of video,

Second, why was no effort made of provide life saving medical care after he was shot. All witness counts seem concur that after he was shot, the police handcuffed him and left him there to bleed out until paramedics arrived and even the paramedics didn't make any effort to resuscitate him. Last I heard, police and paramedics were not qualified to declare a person dead. And if they were so sure he was dead, why bother with handcuffs?

Third, They claim to have found a "second weapon" on him at UMC. So I would assume that the Police have logged both firearms into evidence? I would like to know the Make model and serial numbers of both of those firearms.

My guess is that there was no second weapon, and that the one found on him at UMC was the only one he had in his possession, and that the report made by UMC staff that it was still on his person leads me to believe that he did not draw that firearm and present any such threat to police. I think one of the officers in the heat of the moment decided that him not following instructions was justification for firring his weapon and the other officers opened fire because they assumed the officer who fired first had a reason for doing so.

I think it's time for the feds to come take a serious look at the inner workings of Metro.

Last night at the meet up we where discussing the fact that no one has come forward with cell phone footage. If someone was going berserk inside the store there would be a good chance that some would have whipped out there phone and started recording.

As far as the second gun goes. It could have been his BUG in his pocket.

I agree with your thoughts and conclusions.

Some other things about this don't sound right. Obviously, there has been NO eye witness accounts presented that SUPPORTS the police story that he was holding/drawing his weapon. In fact, there have been SEVERAL contradictory reports.

There was also an apparent lack of communication/coordination on behalf of the officers. One officer telling the guy to drop his gun(which apparently he's NOT holding) and one saying "Get on your knees" would confuse the crap out of most people. If someone's holding a gun on you and your hands are in the air and one of the men says to you "Drop the gun" how many people are going to comply with the man who has a gun in your face.

Next, the whole "we found another weapon" thing. It also sounds a lot like they leaked the "2nd Weapon" bit to the press to try and bias the media against this poor guy. Further, what exactly does a 2nd Weapon constitute? Was there any confirmed report that it was another gun? Even if it were, is he licensed to have/carry it? If it wasn't a gun, I know a lot of people that carry box cutters/utility knives/knives in general, I'm often one of them.

I really don't like the fact that Costco's suddenly having a "Technical" problem that requires a forensics specialist(probably a cleaner) to examine Costco's security tapes. What do you want to bet the data will be unretrievable?

I think that this was probably a tragic case of the police screwing up and taking the life of a law abiding citizen. I think they've further compounded matters by trying to cover their asses rather than admit they used lethal force unnecessarily. It's beginning to sound like they'd rather shoot first and ask questions later as opposed to trying to de-escalate a situation.

My bet is that the firearm that was found on him at UMC was found holstered inside the waist band and that the firearm that was supposedly pointed at an officer will be conveniently missing from evidence; just as the video will be "irretrievable." The only ray of hope I can see is that Scott's father may be financially capable of perusing justice at his expense. As we know, the state does not pay to bring their own to justice. This of course if the principal flaw in our justice system.

These three jackbooted thugs robbed our community of an honorable man. That they did it under color and badge of law without regard for due process requires relentless pursuit of the truth and merciless pursuit of justice. Someone get their measurements, I'll go have striped jumpsuits tailored.

D: 767, could you advise where you'd like medical to stage for now? (10:46)

767: Just have them stage, uh to the nearest intersection to that Costco. If you could have them not roll code, that'd be great also. (10:57)

2V16: We got 2 officers here at the front doors watching everybody come out. (17:36)

D: 2V16, copy. AIR5, it looks like we're still landline. It looks like the male is still being watched by inside personnel due to him ripping open packages. They're concerned of a 414A. (17:49)

Would very much like to know how this purported radio transcript came to be available on an on going investigation.

If true, certain elements are painted very differently.
