What's the difference?

I'm looking at starting to carry a six-gun cowboy style and am most impressed so far with the Ruger Blackhawk in .357. What is the difference between the Vaquero and regular models? Other than about $80 dollars or so that is?

I will be glad to make the holster, nothing can be more exiting than packing a six shootter, you will need to learn to walk bow legger.

The Vaquero has fixed sights and is modeled after the single actions of the 1800's like the Colt SAA, It is a very popular gun with the cowboy fast draw guys because it meets the requirements of fast draw rules. The Blackhawk is a modern single action with adjustable sights and is more popular among handgun hunters for it's accuracy. I often carry my Blackhawk in .44 mag. By the way the .357 magnum is the number one one shot stopper of all time, 97% one shot stops with the legendary Federal 125 grain JHP rounds.

Hmmm, so people pay more for less accuracy or at least for the fixed sight and slightly different grip?

Unless there is something that would impede the draw from the holster it looks like a standard Blackhawk .357 is on the wish list now.

Assuming I get it, I still want a solid cowboy rig with belt ammo loops, hammer thong and tie down. Perhaps something like Glen Ford, Steve McQueen or Clint would wear.....

Where do they do those Cowboy Action shootouts?

I had a three screw Blackhawk back in the day and loved it. Never should have sold it. Just bought the 50th Anniversary Blackhawk set, .357 and .44 magnums, walnut presentation case, special roll marks on the guns, matching serial numbers, etc. They had the original black rubber grips so bought Ruger Rosewoods for them--really sets them off. Great guns, fun to shoot and very accurate with the adjustable sights. Perfect fit in my cowboy rig. You won't go wrong with a .357 BH. For the price, in that type of revolver, can't be beat. And you can shoot .38s for target practice which is a nice benefit of the .357s.
