Yes, WV does honor a VA-CHP.

    Check here for more details:

And here is the official WV Attorney General's website, with a "reciprocity map":

However, it will not get you past the federal "gun free school zone" statute. You're only exempt from that nonsense when the license or permit is issued by the same state the school is in.

By the way, nothing I say on this website as "user" should be taken as either advertising for attorney services or legal advice, merely personal opinion. Everyone having a question regarding the application of law to the facts of their situation should seek the advice of an attorney competent in the subject matter of the issues presented and licensed to practice in the relevant state.

CCW is good throughout the state, but OC is prohibited in a few towns. Where are you going in WV?

Actually, OC is legal nearly EVERYWHERE in WV, with the exception of the Capital Grounds in Charleston. And there, it's a complete carry ban regardless of mode of carry--OC or CC.

Martinsburg (out in the Eastern Panhandle) attempted to institute an OC ban, but changed it after threatened with a lawsuit, and now just has a carry ban (ALL forms) inside city-owned buildings.

I know of no other cities or municipalities that have a carry ban that is legal under WV law.

Perhaps the folks from WVCDL can correct me if I am mistaken on this...

And to expound on this note, WV does NOT offer "non-resident permits". So essentially if you aren't a WV resident, you need to be VERY careful where you OC, so as to avoid getting too close to schools.
