I joined open carry supporters this week to see what it was like for them to wear a gun around town. I asked them why they felt the need to do it. And we chatted about how people react.

Tom,

I am an open carry supporter, or, more broadly, a supporter of the uninfringed Second Amendment. I carried a gun as a legally armed citizen for ten years before I surrendered my permit to move to Wisconsin.

People identifying themselves as open carry supporters or identifying themselves with the internet site forum.opencarry.org often speak rather expansively painting a blurry 'cartoon' picture with their broad brush. They DO NOT SPEAK FOR ME! We may agree on the objective but, more often than not, disagree on the means, the language and the principles.

The most I usually get is people looking at me. Let me emphasize usually. I've only had one bad experience.
