I have been looking for information on the benifits of handgun registration. I can't find any. Is there a valid reason for for requiring registration. The main reasons I hear are:
It helps police identify who owns a handgun used in a crime, but how many handguns are used in a crime by the registered owner. I suspect most are stolen.
In Chicago, they say first responders need to know if there is a handgun at the place of the call. Will the fireman need to search your house and account for all handguns before they put out the fire? How many fireman have been shot responding to a fire call?
One reason I heard in Clark County, NV. They can return a handgun used in a crime to the rightful owner. When asked how many had been returned, they didn't have that information.
Can anyone give me a good reason?
