To be clear, one can legally carry on campus, but not without being asked to leave or facing academic sanctions. It's unfortunate that the Constitution is invalidated as soon as you walk on a campus owned by the people of the Commonwealth (or otherwise). It's always a scary situation when a government doesn't trust The People and legislates against them.

Do you think it's worth even trying to approach a board about permitting firearms? Half of the students already conceal pistols and shotguns in their vehicles.

I suppose the battle would be on two fronts: in Frankfort and on the individual campuses. The latter should start with the students and be assisted by others. I think the former battle would be a hard one to fight. I seem to remember that a proposed bill that would eliminate the ban on firearms to those with a CCDW. I believe that propsed bill was unable to get the necessary sponsors and votes to leave committee. Unfortunately, most people generally think "guns + school= bad". If only you could convince criminals of this, we wouldn't have any problems.

Campus Carry

The first thing that has to be done is change KRS237. As long as the law gives college or technical schools the ability to sanction students under law, we will not be allowed to carry, period. I, as an old guy, going to college full time and am not able to carry and can be sanctioned for having a firearm in my car is ridiculous. I believe the college is protected from lawsuits if I am assaulted while on campus. I believe they have qualified immunity. A student at UK, and who was also an employee, was arrested a few weeks back for having a handgun in his car on campus parking. I don't remember what they charged him with, but, he was arrested.

Unfortunately it will never make it to court. UK would not like the outcome of the ruling. It will be to there advantage to settle long before this every sees a courtroom. Thats why we must work to change KRS 237.115
