Only the second place where it has happened in my life, but I got asked to leave another place of business because I was carrying a "loaded gun in plain sight" where others could see it. I hate Political Correctness!!
I walked from the front door to the gun counter and was asked by one of the people working behind the gun counter: "Sir, is that loaded?" He was referring to the S&W M&P .45 on my hip in plain sight. I told him it wouldn't do me any good if it wasn't. He then proceeded to tell me that OC wasn't allowed in their store, but CC was. He said that since they have live ammunition on the shelves they didn't feel it safe (for some reason or another) to have people OC'ing in their establishment and referenced the sign on the front door. "Please check firearms in at front counter and wait for escort to rear." I thought, and most people I've talked to since then felt the same way, that sign was referring to those coming in to have their firearm serviced or to sell it in the store. The store manager told me if it was loaded I would have to leave. I politely obliged and told him I'd be happy to take my money elsewhere.
I guess I'm just of the mindset that something along those lines almost falls under the category of discrimination. I don't agree with it but oh-well. I don't try to be politically correct but if they want to then it's fine by me. Seems to me they like it better when they can't see it rather than when they can. I went into multiple stores in Great Falls that day and was approached by several people who thought it was interesting that I was carrying, but never had any negative experience until I went into Big R.
The store manager and the employee seemed kinda offended that I wouldn't remove the ammunition from my firearm. As mentioned above, they said since I had it I had to be escorted from the front desk to the gun counter. I told them that the gun counter wasn't my only stop in there and had intended to do other shopping but I could do it somewhere else. We went in with the intention of finding a purse for my fiance to carry her new .38 in but we ended up getting one somewhere else.
Guess it's another place in the state that won't see any of my money. Some might remember the letter I wrote to the Manager of Town Pump when I was asked to leave there. I didn't figure I'd waste my time with that kind of crap in Big R since I was just visiting town. If I lived in Great Falls it would be a different story though...
Just thought I'd say something about it. Have fun and keep carrying, I know I will!!!
