If someone broke down your door yelling "Police", would you go running to get your gun? How would you know if this guy was really LEO or just some BG trying to minimize his risks? The homeowner instincts were correct and good thing he went with his instincts.

What if after the smoke clears, this was actually LEO? Would charges be filed and what's the likelihood of conviction?

The homeowner would most likely be dead. LEO's don't usually conduct raids on a house solo. So if this was the real deal another LEO would likely have killed the homeowner.

Would charges be filed? If he had lived, absolutely.
Likelihood of conviction? Here in the PRK, very high to pretty much absolutely.

Scenario #1: So let's say there are 3 BG's running into your house yelling "Police!" What do you do?

Scenario #2: Let's say the LEO pick the wrong house to conduct the raid, the homeowner runs out with a handgun to defend his "castle". The LEO shoot and kill the homeowner for defending his "castle". Who is criminally responsible for the death of the homeowner?

Scenario #1: Shoot first ask questions later. A law-abiding citizen won't believe they are LEO's because he doesn't have a guilty conscience. The criminal will either lie down or run because of his guilty conscience. The criminal might decide to fight, but that's either the LEO's problem or the other BG's problem, not your's or mine.

Scenario #2: In reality, sadly nobody. It will be portrayed as an honest mistake by the LEO's and they won't be found guilty of any wrong doing. So the moral of the story is to be as proficient as you can be to the level of expert if possible. Defend your castle with prejudice and live to tell the tale. It's better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.
