OC incident with store management at Dicks Sporting Goods Williston store.

Hey all, I was OCing in the Dicks Sporting Goods store in Williston on Saturday. The store management asked me to leave the store because i was open carrying a handgun on me. Which is perfectly legal in this state, I have done so many times in that store. This time they apparently didn't like that i was doing so. So if you are in town and go to that store be ready to leave when asked. Funny how a store and management who sell firearms and ammo would react that way......

Dick's is also known for not recognizing C&R FFL's. They won't sell to out of staters.

I can't seem to find it, but, I swear there is a thread regarding "Dicks" corporate stating following state law like Cabela's.

I just called the store - manager brian said open carry in holsteres is fine there at Dicks Sporting Goods in Williston - maybe there is an isolated issue with a rogue employee?

Having been an Air Force Aviator, and current AF Program Manager, I am very familiar with Acronym talk. Foxtrot Mike India Tango Hotel. Figure that one out.

I'd follow up with a letter to both the manager and corporate with phone calls and certified letters. Quite often the manager does not know state law (or in your case lack of one) and/or corporate policy. Many large corporations have been erring on the side of caution and saying that they abide by state law to avoid civil liability.

I find it hard to believe Dicks holds those views. I've OCed at many Dicks in multiple states with no issues...

I spoke with the store manager and he said that he didn't have a problem with it. Although i did find out that the assistant manager DOES have a problem with it, He makes a visible effort to make anyone he see's, who does open carry leave the store. Plus my EX-Wife works there she also likes to make people leave who open carry. Doesn't bother me any, I go in there concealed most of the time anyways. It's been resolved for me. Nothing more to deal with as far as I'm concerned.

No kidding. That would be a "one warning and then you're fired" kind of situation for me. That's money out of pocket.

I spoke to the store manager yesterday about it. He was glad to be able to put a face to the phone conversation. He reiterated that Dicks policy is to follow the state laws as far as OC/CC of the states they are in, but they do have the right as private property owners to ask you to leave. He did say that any agent of the store (IE: employees on the clock can ask for a manager) to deal with any situation they feel they can't handle, when a customer comes in with a holstered gun. As for my wife working there and pulling her stunt, He says that he will speak to her about it. I know he will because I'll get a phone call from her soon after it happens....
