We're trying to start an SCCC chapter at ECU. I know this is a little off-topic (since it's Students for CONCEALED Carry on Campus), bu tI wanted to put this out, in case any ECU students are on the forum, and hadn't identified themselves.

We missed the deadline to apply for "official recognition" this semester (we needed 10 people signed up by last Friday!) but I thought at least we can get things started for next semester...

Anyway, we're meeting off-campus at the Panera on Greenville Blvd. this Sunday (Sept. 12) at 2:30pm. Panera is an OC-friendly venue, so carry if you wish.

Contact me or "exilin77" by PM if you have questions.

Go here for official info about SCCC:

Yay, it is a fantastic organization and a great way to support students rights to protect themselves at college.

PM me if you are at ANY other college or university and you are interested in joining. I can connect you with who you need to be.

So this doesn't get booted by admin....this is also about OPEN CARRY....I guess...some of our members open carry, so you might meet other OCers (I think this covers us) : ' )

I will be carrying in BOTH modes--OC and CC--for this first meeting. One of the main reasons we chose an off-campus location was so we COULD carry (in whatever mode preferred)...

Oops. I got the day wrong. The 12th is SUNDAY. I've edited the OP to reflect the correct info.

We were going to have it on Saturday, but that is Sept.11, and we thought it might be a little inappropriate...

So the meeting is on SUNDAY, 12 September.

besides the fact that saturday the 11th at 2:30 is in the middle of a home football game

and just my humble (and possibly dumb) opinion is that taking up arms on the anniversary of the day the country was attacked is appropriate if people did not have there rights infringed to bare arms there is no way the terrorist would have been able to gain control of those aircraft

Then its a good thing we moved it to Sunday instead.

We figured that it would be a better idea to hold our meeting on Sunday vs. the 11th, because a bunch of people getting together, some (or most) of them armed, to discuss concealed carry on a state property might raise a few eyebrows.

BUMP....

Just a reminder to any of our fellow ECU students, faculty and Staff that we're having our first organizational meeting for the newly-forming chapter of SCCC at ECU today in Greenville.

Meeting will be at the Panera restaurant on Greenville Blvd in Greenville at 2:30 today.

If you have a valid CHP, CC is welcome. If you don't have a CHP, OC is welcome too.

See the OP for more details...

Despite all this happening in the last few weeks:

It was just me and "exilin77" that showed...

Perhaps it was because there was a big football game Saturday which ECU won, and people were too hung over to attend.

Or because it was "parents weekend" and people were occupied with visitors.

Or because people on ECU's campus are clueless and voluntary victims who think that the police are actually there to protect them, and are only really concerned with being part of an organization if it comes with class credit or a keg... :banghead:

We're going to try again next week, and have a MUCH more aggressive advertising campaign...

I think this is the problem.

Unfortunately, most college-age folks are naive, and many don't really care, as they are too self-absorbed in themselves & their social circle to consider such things.

To add insult to injury, those that do choose to take up a cause & become activists of some sort more often choose rather liberal causes (PETA, Save the Whales, Students Against Destructive Decisions, The BRADY CAMPAIGN, amnesty for immigrants, Obama's "Yes We Can" corps, etc.).

Sad about the unfortunate turn out. I hope you all are able to get more people involved there. We have a few other chapters that are just starting to ramp up some stuff, but none have taken off yet.

If the Greenville based media (Channel 9, and the Reflector) would report ALL of the assaults and other crimes with COMPLETE details, maybe the average E.C.U. student would become aware of the dangers on that side of Greenville.

But of course, we don't want the $tudent'$ parent$ to become aware of the risks that exist in the fine city of Greenville. If they were, they might choose to fund another University instead.

The school does have a system in place to let students know of any violence that is going on. They usually send out emails whenever a student is assaulted in any way, and notifications pop up on computers whenever a student logs into a computer the school owns. apart from that, most students either play computer or console games, or watch reality tv shows. Very few watch the news, and its safe to assume a far smaller percentage watch local news

Granted, there are probably few students keeping up with local news. But sadly the full - time residents of Greenville are also having the truth withheld. I learn more details about these assault crimes from a relative at PCMH than I do the local news.

Maybe this would work, post the details and mug shots on Facebook and the beer cooler windows at Sheetz and Hess. Then all of the students can read the truth.

I have the solution to that...

How about those of us who are proctors in the computer labs change the "startup URL" for all the browsers to the "Crime" page of the local TV station's website.

This way, ANYONE who launches a browser will have it opening to that day's local crime log, not Goggle or Bing or whatever...

All politics are local, folks. Information is power...

Since you work in a macintosh lab, that would work. It wouldn't for me, because we have a program on the computers that prevent any (permanent) changes being made to the computer unless you know the password (which I don't).

I do, however, know the people that know that info. The likelihood of them changing the homepage (or making firefox/IE open up with a second homepage) is slim to none.
