I know this isn't exactly Washington news, but it relates to us gun owners so here's some good news.

Chicago Mayor Daley Opts Against Re-Election, Opens Door for Rahm
Published September 07, 2010 | FoxNews.com

Longtime Chicago Mayor Richard Daley announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election, a stunning decision that apparently ends a political dynasty that dominated the city for more than a half century and paves the way for Rahm Emanuel to chase his dream job, if he chooses.

YAY. Now here's hoping Rahm is smart enough to know that this city has had enough of the Democratic Dictatorship for a while.

The last time Chicago had a "Daley" replaced in office it gave them Jane Byrne. Ask any intelligent Chicagoan if they think THAT was an improvement.

Let's face it, Chicago is a bastion of Liberal, Left Leaning, Socialistic, Brain Dead Democrats. They'll find someone to replace "King Richard the Stupid" with no trouble at all. Chicago will continue to be Chicago.

Democratic Dictatorship for a while.

I know you probably couldn't help yourself. Most of your post I completely agree with. Yes, Daley must go.

I still think Daley needs to go. But to call it a Democrat Dictatorship, you should research what a Dictatorship actually is. I know it is a fancy word that many people use against others that they oppose, right up there with "unAmerican," "racist," heck, even "homophobe."

I would submit that any society that arbitrarily and entirely prohibits the possession of firearms by its citizens (subjects?) is, by definition, a dictatorship.

I agree. Unfortunately the poster seems to think we live in a country that "arbitrarily" and "entirely" prohibits firearms; not in America.

I do not agree with Daley's anti-firearm policy, but he has taken steps to make it a pain in the a$$ to acquire the right to a firearm in your home, but he has not made it impossible. Do I agree with what he has done, ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Then again, the people of Chicago vote this a$$bag in, so they get what coming to them. Daley is not a Dictator, he is a dic*head.

I believe the OP was referring SPECIFICALLY to Chicago as being a "Democratic Dictatorship. Daley did make it impossible for any "commoner" to own a firearm legally. For all intents and purposes, they were/are banned in Chicago, arbitrarily and entirely. If you want to get technical like that, it's theoretically possible to possess drugs like cocaine & meth legally, but for us commoners, they're banned.

And most people who've experienced it will tell you that the Chicago System is, in fact, a de facto dictatorship, whatever trappings of democracy lie on the surface. Saddam was "elected" too, y'know.

Thanks for the backup Metal.

I was referring to Chicago specifically, and up until SCOTUS ruled on it, Daley DID ban firearms in his city.

Beretta, check the dictionary and you'll find that a dictatorship is a government run by a dictator. Now look up "dictator" and one definition is "a person who tells people what to do in an autocratic way". Now I'm sure we all know what autocratic means but... it's "taking no account of other people's wishes or opinions; domineering".

I don't think dictatorship is too harsh a word. Not at all. And in case you want to bring up Castro as a true dictator, just remember that the Cuban people were behind him at one point too. Daley may have been elected by the people, but he stopped representing the majority of them a long time ago.

Daley isn't gone just yet. He'll be around another year or more. He's not running in 2011.

Looks like Rahm Emanuel will run to replace him

Just remember, Chicago is a city filled with people who think the government owes them a handout, or think that government should be used to help them and their buddies make fortunes.

Let's not overlook the fact that Hitler was at one time elected.

Actually, he was appointed chancellor. :p

Lol, I was gonna say the same thing till I did a quick wiki. Emperor Palpatine was, however, elected :D. Great quote in that flick too, "This is how Liberty dies, to thunderous applause."

Good point. The head may change, but the body will be just as rotted as always. Nothin's gonna change there. But you do have to wonder if Lil' Saddam is only bowing out so he won't have to be the one in power when Chicagoans are finally restored their FULL 2a rights in the next few years.

Rahm Emanuel does not live in Chicago. He owns a place there but he rents it out, therefore is not legally a resident there. He must be a resident of Chicago for 12 months before he can take Daley's place. Let's hope U-Haul is too busy to rent Rahm a truck this year.

Now since when did a pesky little thing like a law ever stop a Chicago politician from doing whatever they wanted?

Read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism

Fascism is the authority forcing a populace to do something "for their own good."

Daley can walk, and his goons can go with him.

[EDIT= And he's not "gone," he's just chosen not to be re elected. Right around the time that someone might try to run against the President in 2012 (hint: it's a woman.) Daley being appointed to some high brow job in the Demogogue? NO WAY. Because Chicago politics doesn't buy and sell offices... that's just wrong.]
