^^ works for me I was just pointing out what the sign actually said because a few different posts on this thread were claiming something entirely different to what was actually on the sign.

I understand it may be a moot point, and I also recognize this is a Private Property issue. However, got somewhere I frequent, I would like some sort of response, even if it's "take your business elsewhere." I choose my battles wisely, this one is a slight flight of fancy. I don't expect them to say "Yes, open carry without malice or issue here." I simply want to know why when the sign states what is does is all.

Because the people that write them are not smart enough to see all the ramifications of the "words". Signs like this are usually written by people that 'think' they're smart.

Into the Management Office

As I'm working @ the South Hill Mall today, I took it upon myself to wander towards the management office and wander myself inside. I introduced myself and brought along the wording of their sign. I also informed them I understood it was private property and was just looking for clarification as OC is legal per the letter of the law (Quoted RCW here) and I was confused as to why we were asked to leave. The receptionist passed me off to the Operations Manager, David (Pronounced DaVeed)

We spoke for a few moment about how he is the Acting Owner this week as the Property Owner is out of town. He informed me that Larry, the Security Chief would have an answer. However, Larry was unable to be found. Guess who they brought me? That's right friends and neighbors, the SAME security guard who asked us to leave in the first place. We sat down and had a GREAT conversation. Too bad 2A lost this one.

I read the daily reports and no less than 14 (FOURTEEN) people called the security office to report 2 MWAG. I was stunned by this number. In a little under an hour, 14 people called that they were not feeling safe just because 2 men (accompanied by 2 minors and my wife) were making them feel threatened. Here's the long and short of it.

South Hill Mall has a "NO FIREARMS" Policy. I was told if they don't see it, they won't act on it. If you are uncovered or OC, you're history with no questions asked. They are more concerned for the general public and other customers than just 1 person. These were exact words.

Yes, I know it's private property and they have every right. My thinking went IMMEDIATELY towards education. I will be setting up occasional meets in Puyallup at surrounding Starbucks locations and other nice areas right near the mall. If people are this freaked out over someone simply walking by, education is lacking. Mayhaps making OC a tad more "normal" in the area.

Anyways, to the OP ... research completed on the mall. I hope this information helps someone and at least we all know where the mall stands now.

I'm confused by your response but that's ok. I'm easily confused.

To me it looks like he was making light of your "quest" for an answer that you already had. Whenever asking someone attached with a Mall like this one, you can rest assured that they had their reasons for ejecting someone who was OC'ing. Their reference to 14 people could also have been 5, 23, 11, etc. Just pick a number and then try to prove it wasn't so. Since they are not subject to FOIA, how would one prove it.

If it wasn't for the OP, I'd not have gone and OC'd it. It was a worthwhile trip IMHO. I am still semi new to this OC thing, so every little step I learn something on is a plus for me.

First rule of open carrying: dont go around looking for trouble like some ******* with nothing better to do.

Harsh? yeah maybe, but its true. You treat the bearing of arms as if its some game. "Research complete..." is exactly the kind of talk that seperates people like you from people who carry for the right reasons.

Ill be blunt, people like you that go LOOKING for confrontations should be absolutely and utterly ashamed. And you brought your FAMILY with you on your little "research trip"?

Seriously shameful.

Talk about zombie thread.

I'll not dignify this with a response "like some ******* with nothing better to do...* like flame someone on an internet chat board at 4am their time. Have a taste of this ...

Also, check your keyboard, I think you're having issues with your ' key (I'll, don't, it's, it's again)

Not being a Mall rat, I find this kind of research interesting to me. (nearest mall is 140 miles away) I avoid Seattle at all costs, and only occationally go to Spokane, but it is still interesting. I have been in the malls in Lynnwood and B'ham and don't remember any problems, but who knows. While I don't advertize, I don't try to conceal either...hard to do with a 6" barrel. Maybe they just think it is one of those leather knife holsters. :)

Thank you Goose.

Thank you Goose.

I learned a few things and I wanted to post this here as well.

1) This was less than 1 month after my first Open Carry and I was over zealous to contribute.

2) It was GOOD research as people learned before planning a meet at the mall.

3) It's NOT something I'd do everyday and therefore is outside the current scope of OC.

4) MANY people learned from it.

It's a WIN! I just wanted to post. In my earlier days of OC, I went out of my way to prove something to show I could be valuable to OC. Now, I just be myself. I didn't go looking for confrontation. I helped stop others from being escorted out.

We educated the public as regular people went shopping armed. Private property asked us to leave, we left. No confrontation sought, it just happened. If the sign said NO WEAPONS OF ANY KIND ALLOWED, we'd never have entered. It seems the mall was asking for the confrontation for having a vague sign.

I am moving on, and glad to have helped. Otherwise, 6 months later (now) we'd be wondering if OC was legal and carry at the mall again. Now we know, and knowing is half the battle ...

You heard that people were getting hassled for carrying at a certain location so you gathered up your wife and CHILDREN and brought them with you just so you could try and get a response out of the people there. Its idiotic, ignorant and irresponsible. You people treat this like some kind of game or hobby and its a huge part of why its so hard for the pro-gun community to be taken seriously and not be looked at like lunatics.

By the way big guy, that last sentence where you were whining about my punctuation.... Its missing a period. Isnt it funny how that works out sometimes?

well,,,

when someone digs up a 6 month old thread,
just so they can berate a posters past actions,
then to complain that they make it harder for the 2A community to be accepted,
and then ask a bone headed n00B question like this,,,,!!

Can you define "trolling" for me? Thanks bud.

thank you for playing, and please come back soon, and try again...

Do you have any idea of what the climate for OC is in the state of Washington?
If you can not explain what the legal and political climate for OC is currently in Washington state then you would fit the definition of a troll.

You also resort to name calling of a distinguished forum member here (i.e. 'idiotic'). Refrain from name calling, add something of value or go away.

You're still missing a few ' again. I'll buy you a keyboard. I left the period just so you'd respond. "Isn't it funny how that works sometimes?"

NO ONE was getting harassed for carrying at this location. READ the threads in Washington, since this isn't your usual state. No one was getting harassed. It was asked by a member, and I went shopping OC. You don't know me, nor my family. Dragging my family into a discussing across the country you know nothing about proves you're not worth responding to anymore. Feel good about yourself if you must, I'll simply ignore you. You know nothing of how things work out here. You don't know me, nor my family. You also can patronize me all you want. Aside from your internet bullying, what have YOU done for OC lately?

Did I kill your dog or something "big guy"?

Have a link

Here is my question? Who the hell are you to judge? are you with the brady camp or something? I'll be blunt too, people like you think to highly of themselves... You probably don't even OC... I've meet most of the guys in this forum and I can tell you they walk the walk... nobody was looking for a confrontation... So a word of advice, get off your high horse!!! I bet your one of those guys that thinks you know every law there is when it comes to the 2A... If goose is looking for a confrontation, I guess everyone who OC's is looking for it too... People will always be shocked when they see a man with a gun, What OC is about is trying to make it more of a normal thing to see...

Goose, I think I need some troll spray... you got any extra?
