Discount firearm employee named john

I was in discount firearms today and had an exerience with one of their employees. His name was john and i was just wondering if anyone else had any experience with him.

Was it the John who is a shorter fellow? Always have great service from him. What was the issue?

The guy I dealt with today was late 40ies maybe more around 6 feet shaved head and glasses.

I went in and he was doing the sign in and was fine until I said I needed someone to qualify me with ad ons to my CCW. From then on his additude changed.

One the range he was with others and got mad when he claims I backed out of a stall with a gun in my hand. As I think back he may infact be correct only the fact I took two steps back while re-holstering one of my guns.

I am far from perfect and may have in fact made a mistake on the range. However he got mad left the range and refused to do my CCW ad on and someone else did it for me.

I found this guy to be childish and unprofessional. If someone makes a mistake I would thing they would educate the person instead of having a tamtrum.

The guy who did do my ad on was a pleassure to deal with. Very calm and friendly.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same expereince or was this just a bad day.

Ahhh yes I know the fellow. Yes he can be very gruff. He has never had a problem with me but I have seen him with others. Geza has done many of my add ons and the shorter John as well. Both easy going guys.

If I owned a gun range, I'd fire an instructor who "walked out" on a student. That's unacceptable behavior all the way around. If a student was that bad, that unsafe, I'd expect my instructor to disarm and escort the student off the property. And there would have to be a VERY good reason. Short of that, I would expect my instructor to correct the student and continue with the training. After all, the whole idea behind training is to correct bad habits and practices.

some clarification

This guy was not instructing me I was alone gettting ready for my test and I did something that upset him. He was on the range with a group of people and had nothing to do with me.

When he saw me back up and holster my gun he got upset and left the range.

I went up front and told them I was ready to test and as I understood it he refused to test me. At this time I did not even know what the issue was.

This is when the second John came out and we started the testing. I asked him if there was a problem and he told me the first guy was upset with something I did. I asked for details and was told about backing out of my stall.

John ( the one that did test me) was great. Once he was comforable that I knew what I was doing he simple stood back and let me shoot. I had three ad on's so we were there for awhile. I also had one one gun that was jamming and he was helpful with suggestion and took all the time we needed.

One my way out I asked the second John if the first John was like that alot and he said "ya he gets that way and we just put up it"

IMO this is the best range in town. I have used it before and will continue to use it. I will just stay clear of this guy in the future. I found him to be ruff, difficult and very unprofessional. However, his additude will not interfear with my pratice.

I was told the store was in the final stages of being sold

How much do they charge for add ons there?

Sorry to hear about your experience. I had one while oc they told me the gun could not be loaded while on my hip in the store, and if a cop saw me I could be arrested. The guy also tried to disarm me.

open carry

I was open carrying the whole time and have done so many times in there without an issue.

If fact until yesterday I had never had any problem in there at all.

I added three guns and I think it was $10.00 per gun plus $10 range fee.

This was in Discount Firearms? I have never ever had a issue like that in the store nor have I seen anyone else have that issue. Which employee tried to disarm you?

I did have an issue with this guy once. Haven't shot there since. My friend and I were shooting there one day and my friend wanted to try out one of my guns. I locked the slide back after removing the magazine, verifying the gun was clear, turned the barrel pointed down while gripping the gun by the top of the slide. I handed my friend the gun in the next bay next to me and this guy happened to see me and came all unglued. Nearly threatening to throw us out if he ever sees me doing that again.

I do not ever recall seeing or reading any rule that states that all weapons must stay within the bay. A simple explanation of this rule and not the attitude would have simply made our visit more enjoyable. I am a safe shooter and can safely handle my weapons with no issues. I felt that this was a no issue but I guess he must have felt that I put everyone at risk by moving an unloaded weapon from one bay to another...

Takemine, I did the same thing there once. I was asked very nicely by one of the guys not to do that. Just trade bays he said. So this john seems to be more of a hothead.

Most ranges that I have been to don't like it when you pass firearms to other shooting bays, even if it is adjacent to yours. I was instructed to remove the magazine, lock the slide open and leave it in the bay. If you want someone else to shoot it, you simply switch places with him or her.

I don't recall seeing this documented in the range rules, but I did ask first. I didn't want anybody wigging out on me.

Forgive my ignorance as I do not live in NV, but I have to ask....

What is a CCW ad on?
Do your conceal permits have classes, or do your guns have to be registered to a permit? Just asking because I am curious and I'm not sure what this is.

CCW permits in NV require you to qualify with each non-revolver you're going to carry. The permit lists each make, model, caliber you're qualified to carry, and the add-on is to add a new weapon to the list. I say non-revolver, because in NV if you qualify with a revolver, you can then carry any revolver regardless of make, model, caliber.

I have had a great time when I have gone to discount by myself, however every time I have taken my son, issues have come up. My son had fired six of six shots from a Ruger redhawk single action revolver in .22 Magnum, with the 6 inch barrel he was in a 3.5 inch groupe at 20-25 feet. all rounds fired were accounted for on paper, when a somewhat chubby greyhaired dude, got extra excited and accused my sone of shooting the clip that held the target, he was freaking out and insisted that it had to be touched up immediatly and we would have to wait untill it dried. we opted to leave as it was not cool the dude tried to explain how much "he" had invested in the range, and that he could not tolorate itbeing messed up. I thanked him for his professionalism, and left in my opinion he is a total D-bag
