I dropped into an enemy camp and need backup. I was playing on the net the other night and came across a thread on open carry (or any carry as it turned out). I was reading and doing fine until they started talking about rewriting the Constitution and other socialist crap. A lot of these people were from other countries. I couldn't take anymore and signed up on the site. I was not accepted with open arms. :uhoh: It seems most of them (not all) just can't grasp why we have the 2nd ammendment...or the Constitution.

The sight is called Kongregate and the link below is the Open Carry discussion. I came in on page 14.

I'm not going to touch it. "Samantha" is setting of my spider sense and I'm only on the first page. I think everyone in that thread got trolled.

Just in the first post, she 'relishes' being confronted about her gun, she has 'no fear' of being raped or killed, and she uses her gun to 'command respect'. Don't forget, you'd have to be insane to violate her space without her permission. Later on she disparages non-lethal weapons, but shoots to wound. Human life isn't worth as much as her life, and the guy who was minding his own business with his rifle when the president was a few blocks over was a 'moron' who was 'giving open carry a bad name'. Remember, it doesn't matter how many people we kill, humans can just make more.

Troll troll troll.

I don't think it's wise to visit sites whose premises are so antithetical to your own. When you do, you cannot help but descend into trollhood.

I am not saying don't debate these guys. Just don't do it in their clubhouse. That's just asking for trouble--and you won't change any hearts and minds.

Most of these web pages are for "Birds of a Feather" and debates usually do not affect the viewpoints of the other members. Go to any "Readers Comments" section on any article on Townhall.com. There are lefties who have nothing better to do than to spout virulant rhetoric just to goad on conservatives. Their screenname appears on EVERY thread. They must not be gainfully employed and/or are misusing their employers computer.

I have better things to do than to debate a liberal on a web page. Go ahead if you want; framing your arguments will give you good practice in writing essays.

Arguing with a liberal is like wrestling with a pig. You both get dirty, but the pig likes it.

I always said it was like getting into a fistfight with a cow pie. Sure, you'll win........ But will it KNOW anything new? Will you smell good after? What's the point?

You cannot educate a turd any more than you can polish it. The result of trying is the same.

...pearls before swine.

I may have actually closed the thread. I shall see tomorrow, but I think I got them. That aside, when I dropped in my spidy sense went off too and I wondered what possessed me to make such a dumb move. One of you fellas did come in, although I don't know who it was, and I thank them so very much. I got beat up pretty bad at first. Hopefully, I ended it. In any case, I think I'm out of there.:(

Once I got into a discussion on some thread concerning gun rights. Those of us who supported gun-rights posted very reasoned arguments based on facts, law and logic. Those who did not support gun-rights based their arguments on emotion.

I spent a lot of time researching my posts, while my opponents did not; and none of my arguments changed their minds.

So I vowed not to waste my time again.

I've learned the same lesson, or maybe not. I know this is true, but from time to time I can't refrain. I'm a very logical/mathematical minded person. If I put in the effort, and they cannot refute or counter it, then I should change their mind, or at least get them to admit that they need to look into the subject further before they make up their minds. I would be absolutely happy to settle for this; after all, just because someone is more knowledgeable than me on a given subject, that does not automatically make him right.

I am realizing this is about to turn into a rant and I really don't have the time or inclination right now, so I'm cutting it off here. Sorry if it doesn't really make much sense, but if I keep going there's no telling when I'll stop.

I love that website for all the hours of free online games. Oh how to mortal coil of my life smolders lovingly away.

I had never heard of it before. I just happened across it. At first I was just reading it since it dealt with something I do. Everything was kind of weird and I realized they were mostly foreigners who were complaining about America because we had rights, especially the 2nd Amendment. It kinda ticked me off and that is when I got on. Even when I gave them links to our Constitution they would not go and look at it, just go on like they were on drugs or something. I finally got my hands around it and thought it would end the thread, but it didn't. This one girl was so naive she didn't even make sense in her posts. She would instead talk gibberish. It was hard to make out her posts at times. I did change the direction of the thread a bit and more of our kind came on. It was actually kind of fun.

I'm actually pretty good at picking apart the fallacious arguements of liberals. So much so that after one or two volleys, they begin to see the errors of their ways, their mental constructs crumbling all around them. It's so scary they almost always de-friend me on facebook, even if we've been friends for 30 years.

An idealist sees the world as it they would like it to be. You can't change their minds, as you're dealing with dreams, not reality. One cannot reason with dreams.

A rationalist sees the world as it is. Their view may not be perfect, but they got where they are because they're always rubbing their eyes trying to see things with more clarity. You can reason with a rationalist, as reality is their foundation.

I think it's a damn shame that you can be friends with someone for 30 years and they will stop associating with you because they can't face the possibility they might be wrong about something. But hey, my ideal world is a rational one, and sometimes I have to remind myself not everyone lives up to my ideal. :D

Well, the pro-gun side pretty much won. It went on for several pages and ended when the naive girl called one of the guys a pedophile. He unloaded both barrels at her and the forum went dead. Then one of the guys posted to me that he wanted my opinion of a Ruger LCR. I answered him and it went dead again. Then it started up about corruption in the police depts and went a couple more pages. It is dead again.

It was interesting to say the least. I never realized that so many foreigners were jealous of our Constitution and would like to see it dismantled. Some tried to tell us it was a living document to be changed depending on what was wanted at the moment. They felt congress should be able to change it on it's own.

I'm not so sure it's jealously that drives their opinions. I think it is more along the lines of them being steeped in their systems where government is all encompassing, large, and viewed as all-powerful. The idea that a strong central government is the best system for all of the people is more prevalent in those countries and whole generations have come and gone with this as their point of reference.

In our nation, historically at any rate, this sort of mindset is an anathema to the American view of government's place in our life. We historically view anything resembling an overbearing government as not only an intrusion in our lives and on our liberties, but potentially evil. This runs very counter to the concept other nations' citizens have about the roll government should and must take in helping and shaping its people.

As for jealously, yes I do think there is a degree of that, now that you mention it. In rather short order, about 130 years, America moved to the front of the economic pack, exceeding the output of the major powers of Europe by the early beginning of the 20th century. I suppose this had to cause a measure of discord among the Europe's elite with a new upstart nation stripping their three most power countries in such a short period of time. But this should have come as no surprise. In 1775, the year of the outbreak of the American Revolution, the average American colonist was wealthier, healthier, better educated, and better off than the average British subject. We only had to continue our trek upwards to surpass France and Germany, along with England, which by 1910, we had.

Best not to concern ourselves about how those in other nations view us. When you're on top, you're always going to be a target by those trying desperately to catch up.

Congress can change it on its own and it can be changed to what is wanted at the moment... IF enough people agree. If a bare majority or even a mere super majority want to change it then they are going to be disappointed. It protects against tyranny of the majority. That is something most countries lack.
