It is a good thing that Maryland restricts guns or else someone might shoot a doctor and take hostages! Oh **** I guess the gun restrictions didn't help:

It is also a good thing that most hospitals ban guns. You wouldn't want patients or doctors being able to defend themselves.

This crap could happen ever 30 seconds and they would still say that they by stopping these evil guns protects people.

not that it's relevant but he lived in Arlington and had a VA CCW

So more fodder for the anti crowd saying CHP holders are crazy gunners too.

The fact that he could cross state lines with the gun shows how futile their laws are to someone determined to do something crazy. Making laws to stop crazy people is.... (wait for it) crazy!

I am curious to hear what motive there was tied to the hospital or not and am sorry to hear of the deaths.

Apparently the wing nut didn't like what the Doctor was telling him about his poor dear mother. So he shot both of them.

The hospital is reviewing their security procedures. Maybe Hopkins needs bigger "NO GUNS" signs. Yeah that will work.

Sort of sad to laugh at this... but maybe this is what we should push in all situations just like this... the futility may get through to even the densest of them...

Sadly, no, it won't. I've said it before; Gun control is not about keeping anyone safe, it is about control, period. You cannot have absolute power if your subjects have the means of resisting you.

This situation at Johns Hopkins, and the many others we have all witnessed, is sad not only because two human lives have ended, but also because it will be used as ammunition against those who wish to exercise any of their rights. We are focused on the Second Amendment, but, should that fall by the wayside, what will be the next target? Speech, Press, Religion, Assembly?

I fear for this once-great nation of ours. It can be great again, but there's a lot of folk who have to remove their heads from their nether regions.

Oh.... the anti's are out in force on the Balto Sun forum. I've spent near all day countering that crap. Most have no idea that a VA CCW is invalid in MD. Most have no concept of reciprocity. Then comes the 'wild west' shoot-out scenarios... as tho they'd know. It's endemic ignorance run amok.

No, this is NOT correct...

The perp had a VA PCCH (Permit to Carry a Concealed Handgun). "CCW" is a crime. It was perfectly legal for him to carry concelaed in VA.

Now, the moment he crossed the border into MD and was CCing, THEN he was committing CCW....

Please, please, please STOP using the term "CCW" to describe a lawfully carried concealed handgun, or the permit to do so. There is NOT a SINGLE state in the union that calls their concealed carry permit/license a "CCW".

The only time "CCW" is ever mentioned in ANY state statutes is to describe the CRIME of carrying concealed in a prohibited area or carrying concealed without a permit...

PLEASE stop using this term to describe lawful carry.

No, you are not correct. CCW stands for "carrying a concealed weapon." Nothing more, nothing less. It does not describe a criminal act, not does it comment on whether one is doing so legally or not. A crime occurs only when it's done without a valid permit, and then, only in those states which require a permit.

Most of us discern what the poster is talking about based on the context in which is was written. If not, we don't assume. We ask.

As for the permits themselves, there are many variations on the name:

Concealed Handgun License/Permit (CHL/CHP)
Concealed (Defensive/Deadly) Weapon Permit/License (CDWL/CWP/CWL)
Concealed Carry Permit/License (CCP/CCL)
License To Carry (Firearms) (LTC/LTCF)
Carry of Concealed Deadly Weapon license (CCDW)
Concealed Pistol License (CPL)

You are right about one thing: No state calls it's CC permit by the name "CCW."

AZ calls it a CCW permit.

Wrong.

ADPS refers to the permit and the forms for obtaining a permit or instructor certification on the ADP website as "CCW Permits" which is silly and incorrect because the permit isn't called a "CCW", and the division of the ADPS that deals with issuance is called the "Concealed Weapons Permit Unit".

The permit application itself also is titled a "Concealed Weapons Permit Application". Nowhere in the "official" documentation of the ADPS (form, statutes, etc) is this permit called or referred to as a "CCW"...

http://www.azdps.gov/Services/Concealed_Weapons/Forms/

http://www.usacarry.com/arizona_concealed_carry_permit_information.html

The permit itself is called a "Concealed Weapons Permit". If the webmaster for the ADPS is so illiterate that they call their permit by the wrong acronym then perhaps they need to go back to school...
