South Portland proposes banning "anything that projects a missile"

    WGME News Link

South Portland is proposing banning bb guns and slingshots and "anything that projects a missile"

As you all know, they cannot ban firearms due to State Preemption. I think we need to find out when and where this hearing is going to be on Monday night and attend to voice our opposition.

title12sec10001 defines firearm as "Firearm" means any instrument used in the propulsion of pellets, shot, shells or bullets by action of gunpowder, compressed air or gas exploded or released within it.

Bb gun would be defined as a firearm by that definition and therefore would be covered by the State Preemption law. South Portland is definitely in the wrong here.

I don't really see it as a joke. It's an illegal ordinance that deals directly with our field. It's unlawful and should be fought.

I will be there for sure. There isn't anything that would keep me from attending.

obviously... but read how it's written. a 3 year old could have come up with better wording.

Does anyone know if they post video from the Portland City Council meetings online? I know they record them but haven't been able to find anything of the kind.

well fellas, monday night at south port city hall there will indeed be a meeting on weapons, among other things. meeting starts at 7:00 pm and in on cottage road in south portland. if you go www.southportland.org and go to agendas-city council you can read all about it. tell me what you think.

Clearly Illegal, when viewed in light of Maines' definition of a Firearm.

same thing as far as speech? or in pre-event activity?

for talking points for this one I'm gonna keep it pretty simple. This ordinance is against this state law and read them the preemption law and definition of a firearm. This isn't really an attack on self protection so much as just an attack on citizen's rights, so I think my speech about gun free zones doesn't really apply well to this.

As far as pre-event activities. I'm game for anything after noon I think... Gonna try and get a hair cut at some point before the meeting.

yeah, pre-event. I found out that I have a lab today so depending on when it gets out... I might not be able to make it. I can't miss this lab... If I do I fail the class.

Can't carry on public property but you can use in self defense. Excuse me Mr. Criminal, wait until I go home and get my protection. That's like being half pregnant.

Bare in mind, there are officers and commanders in the SPPD that are very strong defenders of the Second Amendment and have spoken publicly as recently as last week on the right to bare arms on WLOB radio.
