An article by Chip Wood -

I found this article and was wondering if anyone has any comments?

Question: "Does the Bill of Rights grant the people free speech, freedom of the press, the right to possess a weapon, etc?"

    Answer:
"The Declaration of Independence, which provides the philosophical base of our nation, states very clearly that our rights are granted to us by our Creator. The various rights noted in the Bill of Rights were not granted by government. The purpose of the Bill of Rights is to prevent the Federal government from suspending any of those God-given rights, including the right to possess a weapon. Those who claim “Second Amendment rights,” for instance, make a big mistake with such a statement. If the right is granted by the Second Amendment, meaning by government, it can be taken away by government. If the right is granted by God, only He can take it away."

We had the right before we started walking on two legs. The 2nd amendment only codified that right, not granted it. The wording of it is perfect. We have the right and is shall not be infringed.
I remember reading somewhere. After the authors of the constitution finished, they said, "There is your freedom, see if you can keep it" They knew the nature of tyrants.

A citizen may not be required to offer a ―good and substantial reason-- why he should be permitted to exercise his rights. The right‘s existence is all the reason he needs.

The Bill of Rights is a piece of paper. It has no special ability to do anything. Unless it magically sprouts arms and legs and starts defending itself, it's still just a piece of paper with some nice words printed on it. The People are the ones who must protect their rights. When every branch of government is working in collusion to increase their power and to decrease yours, who among them are you going to turn to for protection?

The Founders believed that once they were free of the shackles of England, that they needed to form a government in order to protect the rights of the people. In that endeavor, they have failed miserably. The government has become the very thing the Founders sought to avoid. Neither the Constitution nor the Bill of Rights had any ability to prevent it. There have been small battles won against the enemies of freedom, but the larger war is very much lost.

Liberty is an idea; and intangible thing. It is made tangible by those who live it and defend it. You cannot quantify it by putting words on paper. To be free is to live free, and to remain free one must defend their freedom against all who would take it from them. You cannot trust anyone who seeks power for the purpose of doing good, as those who seek power over others will always seek more of it. As the Founders once freed themselves from the shackles of the King, we must free ourselves from the shackles of the State, if we truly want to be free.

Do you want to enjoy liberty in your lifetime?

Consider moving to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project.

Its a God given right to self-protection, even animals have means of defense.
The B-o-R was put into it, to keep the tyrants at bay, and protect those rights.
