I live in the neighborhood where Mr Martin lived. I thought this neighborhood was safe and I felt pretty secure. I've even accidently left my back door unlocked for 6 solid months and never had an issue. But a story like this prompts us all to be more vigilant in our own homes. Obviously whenever I am in my house I keep my guns within reach and never answer the door unarmed. But the unlying threat here was the fact that I never really thought anyone in this neighboor would be such a bad egg. Which means now I will be more vigilant in my home defense. You never truly know who is living next door til you read about them in the paper or see them on the news the next day.
